Going an extra mile

Christmas eve was very eventful. Got so many things to blog, but I'm just 1hr away from the Christmas dinner at my sis's home. So I'll just blog 1 event first, and leave the rest later.

Wanted to go pitstop cafe last night. Knowing that it would be extra crowded, we called to reserve a table for 5 of us.

We wanted a table at 9pm, but was told that the earliest is 10pm. Ok, we are fine with it. Then we were told that the table will be at the balcony as they are fully booked. I told her to try get us a table indoor and she said she will check and call us if she can find.

When we arrived at 10pm, we were told that there isn't any table for us. They thought that we only wanted indoor seat and thus gave the balcony seat to another group, and tried to find a table indoor but failed since its christmas eve and the place is super crowded. We thought that we are confirmed a seat at balcony, but they are trying to find a seat indoor.

Miscommunication I guess.

Anyway, we hopped over to TCC where we were given the best seats ever... the corner seat. Its a very enclosed corner, and it feel as if its a private room. I managed to 'swim' on top of 2 beanbags!!

Then Tim from pitstop sms-ed me to apologise for the miscommunication and offer me a 10% discount and a membership card on our next visit. Cool! That is what I call a good customer service.

Then came the crazy idea.

The guys were suggesting how about we ask pitstop cafe if we could rent a boardgame from them to play at TCC. The waitress at TCC confirmed that we can play boardgame there. So we SMS Tim to check if they allows it. After some SMS exchanges, they agreed to lend us a boardgame!!

And instead of us going over to collect the game, Tim personally delivered the boardgame to us. Never have I seen such good customer service before. Wait, we are not even their customer to begin with! Wanted to pay them for the game rental, but they refuse.

So there we are, playing Ticket to Ride at TCC all the way till Christmas. Thanks to pitstop cafe. :)

OK, so when are we going pitstop cafe again?

Visit to Pitstop Cafe

I FINALLY visited pitstop cafe today. Went there with Ander, Audrey and Shanshan.

Wah piang. That place is open for nearly one year already lor. And I've been wanting to go there long time ago, but never got the chance to do so. So when Shanshan suggested going boardgame cafe, my first respond was "Go pitstop Cafe!!"

But why pitstop when there are other boardgame cafe too? Strictly speaking, all of them should be more or less the same. Right? Well, true in some sense. But somehow, there is something different about pitstop cafe. Maybe because I read their blog every now and then. Somehow, I feel that they are more friendly than the other boardgame cafe I've been to. And their wall are filled with photos and writings. We didn't contribute to the wall this time. Maybe next time we'll leave a marking or something. hee hee.

Anyway, we played 2 rounds of blokus. Its a nice game. Rather competitive especially when you have 4 players. I don't know why but the 3 of them seems to like to block me alot. NOT FAIR LOR. They even teach each other how to block me. Wah piang.

Then we change to a card game call swap (or something like that). Quite boring game. Seems like a spin off from UNO. In fact, I think we can use UNO cards to play that game. Haha. Could had been more fun if there are more power cards or something. We stop after one round.

Then we tried Ticket to Ride. Great game. But I think we are stil very new to the game, that why we didn't sabo each other much. All we did was to concentrate on our own mission. Maybe next time go there play again.

Had a great time at Pitstop Cafe. Too bad we need to go dinner. Else would had stayed for another round of Ticket to Ride.

We go again next time k? :D

Quickie

Sis called me today to check something. My 2 1/2 yr old nephew wanted a share of the conversation and so I entertained him for a while before talking to his mummy. We hang up the phone when everything is settled, only to have my sis call me again in less than 30 sec. It is my nephew saying goodbye to me.

Sis say he cried because she hang up the phone without giving him a chance to say goodbye to me.

----------------------

Forgot to go ATM machine today. Left with just 40 cents in my wallet after lunch. I was sitting next to a school children while on the bus to SIM when something interesting pop into my mind. That child sitting next to me actually have more money than me now.

And I'm actually a working adult.....

-----------------------

Pitstop cafe is having a Ice Cream buffet every Thursday for the month of march. Always been wanting to go visit pitstop cafe. The ice cream buffet is like an added bonus. But somehow, just can't seem to find any company.

There are 2 more thursday left for March. I don't mind going on non-thurs too. Anyone???

-----------------------

I should be doing my assignment now. But the questions are killing me. Question 1 says write a 600 words report. Question 2 says write a 1000 words report. Hey, I'm a programmer!!! Not reporter....

Give me programming or give me death!

Cafe Startup

Saw this interesting blog in Tomorrow.sg

It's about 4 people setting up a boardgame cafe near boat quay. Interesting read I must say.

Suddenly, it bring back my daydream of setting up a cafe. A nice cosy cafe at some ulu place with lots of sofa seats and beanbags. A well kept secret which serve great cheese cakes and nice coffee. A quiet cafe with great ambience, playing soft jazz.

Yes, I do daydream about setting up a cafe like that.

Then reality sets in. Where do I get the money for startup? Where do I get the cheese cakes from? How do I brew coffee? Employ how many staff? How much is the monthly cost? How much can I earn per mth?

I have totally no experience in running a cafe. How do I make it work?

Haiz..... Don't you just hate it when your daydream goes into details?

Time to stop daydreaming. Perhaps I should start saving up 1st, learn how to make nice coffee using espresso machine, then plan the rest. Perhaps I need a partner or two.
