Do something that make everyone say wow

I still remember during Nexus when I feel uneasy telling people which company am I from. Other than being there as an individual and dislike my company, there is another reason which I didn't mention.

Because there is nothing much to say about my work. My job is doing something that is important yet mostly unnoticed. I usually don't like to talk much about it because there is no pride when telling people. Its nothing fantastic.

Over the past few days, I've been dreaming and deciding which path to take. And I know my current job is not the place I want to stay in. It is not just the RM people in my office or the stupid policy they had. Its just that there is no sense of achievement in the everyday things I do. Even after I managed to solve that huge error recently, there still isn't much sense of achievement.

I want to do something for myself. Something fantastic. Something that I can feel proud when telling people at networking function. I admit I like compliments. Well, who doesn't?

Recently, I've been surrounded by people who have achieved a lot in their life. Some of them are younger than me. They got me asking myself, what was I doing? I look back and saw four years of my life wasted. I could had done much more for the past four years. But I was busy at work and studies.

I told myself that I want to spend this weekend thinking about what I want to do. I off my twitter so that it will not disturb me. I went out to the streets, wondering aimlessly trying to find inspiration on what to do.

I finally found my inspiration here.

No, I'm not going into street arts. Don't worry. I suck at drawing.

I was looking at the chalk drawing by Julian Beever at Raffles City and seeing the reaction of everyone. Everyone is using their handphone camera to take picture. Everyone is saying the word "wow" when they saw it. And at that moment, I suddenly realise what I really wanted to do in life.

I want to do something that will make everyone say "wow" when they see it.

Maybe I should really go into web programming. I used to be quite good in programming during poly days. I'm sure I still am now, just that I need some time to get the engine started again. But I've never done web programming before. There are a lot of things I need to catch up. Need to learn PHP, MySQL and stuff. It is almost impossible for me to do it if I'm still working at my current company. There isn't enough time. So I guess I'm really resigning and going jobless for a few month. Pick up the skill, get everything on the right track before deciding if I want to find another job or carry on doing freelance.

I know its going to be tough. Many people will surely say I'm crazy to put down a well paid job. Well, I guess I'm still young to explore the world. If I don't do it now, then when can I do it?

I hope my family and love ones will give me their support.

I'm going to take option 2. I believe that this is the best way for me to make everyone say "wow". This is my new dream.

goooo 4 it!

Thanks estee. :)

DK,

Cool.. Go for your dream!!

=)

I think every decent job in the world has something which I'd say "wow" to. Every skill needs to be respected.

I think what really matters is what you want to do from your heart. What you must do so that you yourself will say "wow".

Hey DK... Great that you've decided. Go for it and all the best. :)

I had that same feeling for years and recently, it's been rather strong whenever I'm feeling down and useless. I'm still stuck at this moment. My degree is on the way, I hope.

I'd say since you no longer happy in your current job, you won't be performing well, quit and take up a new skill. It's always good to add value to yourself if your company is unable to provide that for you.

It won't be easy to find a company that's willing to take you in as you don't have that experience. Be strong.

I'm really "Wow". I know the going is tough now, believe in yourself, you can do it. All the best!

hmm pick up .NET and MS Silverlight if you can. These technologies will open ways for you to MNC's that need Microsoft development.

Wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

wishbone: Yeap, I think I'm really not performing at work lately. Which is kinda painful to watch myself.

mark: I'll go for PHP first. May look at silverlight later. Thx. :)

Way to go...

You want to be like me shaking legs at home aR... Jobs seem harder to find nowadays...

No matter what road you choose, give it your best shot! :) Cheers, and may your dream come true!

My turn to find mine :D

HJ: Jobs not harder to find, its just that you are choosy. Besides, I'm going to pick up some new skill, not like you at home shake legs.

Nicole: thx. :)

yay! finally! =D congrats! And good luck! =)

tstar: Thx. :)

Congrats DK. It is the first step to everything.

Hi DK,

in some ways i'm glad you've finally made that decision.

i haven't spoke to you much, but when i speak to you last Friday about the future, you seemed to be very hesitant. it's a drastic difference from the usual bubbly you.

now that you've finally made the decision, i say "cool!" because all of us can now be on the lookout for you and pass your opportunities that we find appropriate! crowdsourcing!

more importantly, pursue what you like and with the purest heart. i think we can all help each other along the way. besides, you've accumulated enough capital to fund yourself for a while... while you go all out for it!

people say "some people just have all the luck". i say "lucky people are always prepared to jump on the right opportunity".

let's all get prepared for it.

As they say, life is best lived with a passion. There is no wrong turn if you know in your gut that this is something you have to do. It takes courage, but it suddenly makes you feel "alive". Good luck and let me know if there's any way I can help. :)

Sending you my support. You option Two is something I have been thinking about. I can't stand parents nagging at me.

Paddy: The first step is always the hardest.

Kelvin: Ya, I think I'll be more happy doing this. Am preparing for it now.

Kevin: Sure. If ever I got any product or service that need publicity, the first thing I'll think of is your theorycast. :D

Oceanskies: I guess nobody can stand parents' nagging.

Congrats!! Finally you have step out to your 1st step! And this 1st step will lead you to think further and further to explore what you really likes and enjoys doing. I was like you too, when I came to a stage of my life (after working for 5 years, and at late 20s)

I have choosen to go with my passion, because that is the only way you can last for a long long time without feeling unhappy or tired.

But this is a tough road ahead, so always think through and plan before you act or finalise your decision.

Very soon, you will be like myself and Paddy!! :)

Cheers,
Izel Ang

scubscub: You came to a stage of your life at late 20s?!?!?!

Gees.... I always thought you still early 20s only. :P

DK, trying to hit on my wife again huh? hahaha!

Yeah first step is always the hardest but it is also the one foothold that you will have the sweetest memory of when you hit it good :)

Hahaha... hit on me also no use... I got no free gadgets/softwares/samples to give away leh...

If I realised that when I was in my early 20s, then I would have come out and work on my own long long time ago liao lor... wait till late 20s, i already felt too late liao...

But, better late than never, i say strike it if you really want to venture out. At least dont restrict your options till you decide what you want to do. :)

Cheers,
Izel Ang

Paddy: AIYA.... I tot if I hit her in my blog, you won't notice. :P

scubscub: You got free necklace mah. :D

Ya... want to go out and see what I can do for myself. :D

HAha.. free necklace for yourself is it? You really want to become Paddy's bitch huh??

Its good that you are thinking of your options. There are a lot of risks out there, but if it makes you happier, then the risks are all worth it.

Most importantly, you must know what make you happy. :P

Hello, free necklace to give gal lah. But firstly, I need to find a gal first. Haha....

Haven't taken the first step yet. Just planning what to do. I think I'll confirm be happier.
