The hidden equation

Can't you see the hidden equation?

This is no good.....

It's funny how I control my own spending. Putting only a little bit of money in my spending account each month, and try to survive on it. And at the end of the month, I'm more broke than a school student. Sometimes I open my wallet to find less than a dollar in it.

This got to be the best way to save money. Putting a sum of money in 1 ATM for your daily spending so that you won't overspend. I don't withdraw money from my savings account unless I die die need some money.

But this is really no good. Having just merely $12 in the ATM account. Imagine going to an ATM machine to withdraw money, only to discover that you got $12 in it. So you take back your card and walk to another bank's ATM machine. And the person behind you must be wondering what the heck you doing.

Still waiting for my bonus. 166 days to go..... Seems forever....

Three Little Words.....

The following three-word phrases can enrich every relationship. These are just three little BUT VERY POWERFUL words!!!

I'll be there
-------------
If you have ever had to call a friend in the middle of the night, to
take a sick child to hospital, or when your car has broken down some miles from home, you will know how good it feels to hear the phrase "I'll be there." Being there for another person is the greatest gift we can give. When we're truly present for other people, important things happen to them & us.
We are renewed in love and friendship.
We are restored emotionally and spiritually.
Being there is at the very core of civility.

I miss you
----------
Perhaps more marriages could be saved & strengthened
if couples simply & sincerely say to each other "I miss you." This
powerful affirmation tells partners they are wanted, needed, desired & loved. Consider how ecstatic you would feel, if you received an
unexpected phone call from your spouse in the middle of your work day,
just to say, "I miss you."

I respect you
-------------
Respect is another way of showing love.
Respect conveys the feeling that another person is a true equal. If
you talk to your children as if they were adults you will strengthen
the bonds & become close friends. This applies to all interpersonal
relationships.

Maybe you're right
------------------
This phrase is highly effective in diffusing an argument
and restoring frayed emotions.
The flip side to "maybe you're right" is the humility of admitting
maybe "I'm wrong". Let's face it.
When you have a heated argument with someone,
all you do is cement the other person's point of view.
They, or you, will not change their stance and
you run the risk of seriously damaging the relationship between you.
Saying "maybe you're right" can open the door to further explore the
subject, in which you may then have the opportunity to get your view across in a more rational manner.

Please forgive me
-----------------
Many broken relationships could be restored and healed
if people would admit their mistakes and ask for forgiveness. All of
us are vulnerable to faults and failures. A man should never be
ashamed to own up that he has been in the wrong, which is saying, in other words, that he is wiser today than he was yesterday.

I thank you
-----------
Gratitude is an exquisite form of courtesy.
People who enjoy the companionship of good, close friends are those who don't take daily courtesies for granted. They are quick to thank their friends for their many expressions of kindness.
On the other hand, people whose circle of friends is severely constricted often do not have the attitude of gratitude.

Count on me
-----------
A friend is one who walks in when others walk out.
Loyalty is an essential ingredient for true friendship;
it is the emotional glue that bonds people.
Those that are rich in their relationships tend to be steady and true
friends. When troubles come, a good friend is they're indicating, "You can count on me."

Let me help
-----------
The best of friends see a need and try to fill it.
When they spot a hurt they do what they can to heal it. Without being asked, they pitch in and help.

I understand you
----------------
People become closer and enjoy each other more if they feel the other person accepts and understands them. Letting your spouse know in so many little ways that you understand them, is one of the most powerful tools for healing relationship. This applies to any relationship.

Go for it
---------
We are all unique individuals. Don't try to get your friends to
conform to your ideals.
Support them in pursuing their interests, no matter how weird they
seem to you.
Everyone has dreams, dreams that are unique to that person only.
Support and encourage your friends to follow their dreams. Tell them
to "go for it."

I love you
----------
Perhaps the most important three words that you can say. Telling
someone that you truly love them satisfies a person's deepest
emotional needs. The need to belong, to feel appreciated and to be
wanted. Your spouse, your children, your friends and you, all need
to hear those three little words "I love you."

The politics of MP3

Saw this CD while shopping yesterday. No need to listen to the sample or ask any questions. Just take the CD, go to the cashier and pay for it. It's Paul Van Dyk. You can't go wrong with Paul Van Dyk's CD. Trust the DJ, trust Paul Van Dyk.

But funny thing is, why am I buying a CD? I no longer put a CD into the CD player and play it. The moment I reach Coffee Bean, I took out my laptop and rip the CD into MP3, then transfer the songs into my 1gb Memory Stick Duo using my card reader. I don't have a discman, but I do have a K750i that can play MP3. And MP3 player my new way of listening to CD.

It is sometimes amazing how a small little card can hold all the songs in the 2 CD, and have space for many more. I purposely put the memory card on the CD so that we can see the differences. Who still bring a discman and CD when going out nowadays? MP3 player changed the way we listen to music the same way walkman did some 20 years ago.

Maybe they should do away with CD and offer music in memory card format 1 day. But we need to wait to the day when memory card are dirt cheap. And another problem is, which type of memory card? We have SD, Smart Media, Memory Stick and Compact Flash. (and many reduce sized format). Which format to choose? SONY music will no doubt be using Memory Stick. Other companies will have to choose a format they prefer. But iPod and Zen users will lose out because their MP3 player doesn't have a slot for memory card. Maybe someone can make card reader for iPod and Zen.

And talking about ripping CD into MP3, you might be interested to know that it is actually illegal in Singapore. Yeap, same as oral sex.

Q. How do I know whether the songs in my computer or MP3 player are legal?
A. If you didn't buy it from a legal site like Soundbuzz, it is probably illegal. Plus, when you buy a CD, the rights only apply to the CD; this means you cannot rip songs out and make them into MP3s for your player.

Generally, it's advisable to check the terms and conditions of use before you make a copy of the songs. -- SOURCE: INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE OF SINGAPORE"

So, does that make all iPod and Zen owners criminals? I wonder.

What if 1 fine day, some big shot in the SPF decide to enforce this law? You will see policeman along orchard road, searching everybody's bag for MP3 players. Don't think Changi Chalet have enough space for everyone. They might need HDB's help to sell them some unsold flats in ulu new towns.

Maybe that is the reason why nobody is enforcing this law. You can't arrest everyone on the street. There is no place to put them after you convict them of the crime. Thus my conclusion is:- If everyone is breaking that crime, it is pretty safe to join in. :D

You see, sometimes, the law really need to be amended. Oral Sex is so common nowadays, same as ripping CD into MP3. Are you going to arrest everyone who does that? Until the day someone amend this stupid outdated law, I'm still going to contiune having oral sex ripping CD.

(No, I don't really like oral sex, I prefer the real deal. And the good thing about it is, it's not against the law. In fact, the govt even supports Singaporeans to do it often. Stand Up for Singapore has another meaning if you get what I mean)

Rain Rain....

A good evening to sleep.

Rain Location in Singapore

In our own oasis

It is not difficult to spot a SPUGGER. Most Singapore palm user are registered member in SPUG. SPUG also attracts many PPC users and non-PDA users. (I'm always ready to lend someone my stylus for her Nokia 6230)

And if you see someone sitting at a cafe, with a Zire and a portable keyboard, you can be quite sure he is a SPUGGER.

It turn out to be Jeffyen. I met him twice before, once during the Kallang Mac gathering and another time during the Treo650 launch. He is a pleasant looking guy. A polite and soft spoken gentleman who never fails to smile. He was in his own Oasis, typing on his PDA and listening to iPod Shuffle, while slipping coffee at the coffee bean outside borders.

Wanted to go over and say hi to him. But I'm afraid I might disturb him in his world. Anyway, I'm also looking for my own oasis. So instead of going forward to greet him, I decide to sit 1 corner at the sofa seat, enjoy my Mocha Ice Blended and Mudpie while trying to leech WIFI network from the nearby NYDC.

Each in our own oasis.

Blade not enough

Tag:

3 blade is not enough, now they are coming with 5.

Gillette Co. Wednesday unveiled its newest shaving system, a five-bladed razor called Fusion with a trimmer on the back of the cartridge aimed at the 50 percent of men who have mustaches and beards.

Fusion is Gillette's latest product geared at maintaining the company's leading share of the world's razor and blade market.

It has one more blade than the Quattro sold by rival Schick, a unit of Energizer Holdings Inc., plus a trimming blade on the back of the pivoting cartridge for shaping facial hair, trimming sideburns and shaving under the nose.

Gillette was the first company to sell a three-bladed razor, Mach3, in 1998. Five years later, Schick followed with the four-bladed Quattro.

Schick is adding a battery-powered Quattro to its lineup this month, while Gillette's Fusion — in both manual and battery-powered models — won't hit North American stores until early next year.

At this rate they are going, my son will use 12 blade when he start shaving.

Credit Card Woes

Got a shock when I log in to see my Citibank Credit Card account. I've spend around $300 lately and I totally don't know until I check the account. Nope, there isn't any error or fraud case. They are really spend by me. Just that I have no "feelings" that I've spend so much.

So much for a new Credit Card owner. The previous month was still pretty alright. I was rather careful with my spending and still have a rough idea how much I've already spend. So I know when to tighten my wallet. But this month was bad. I keep thinking that I've only spend around maybe $100++. Didn't expect it to be $300.

I think I'll need to be more careful. Although $300 will not make me bankrupt, but its not good to overspend. And worst, overspend without knowing. I'm glad I went online to check how much I've spend. Cannot imagine what will happen if I didn't check and continue to spend until the bill comes.

Look like I got to do some action. You see, I have 3 bank accounts. 1 for the bills, 1 for usual spending and 1 for savings. My monthly pay will go into the account for my bills. From there, I'll transfer money to my savings account and my monthly spending account, leaving some money to pay the bills. The savings account is untouchable. Money only goes in and seldom comes out. (unless I want to buy some big item like laptop). The usual spending account is where I put the money that I can spend for the month. This way, I can judge if I've overspend for the month.

Good plan hor? Until the credit card comes into the picture. I can no longer depend on my usual spending account to judge my spending for the month.

So my new plan is, get a money box. You know, those tin box with lock and a slot for your to put money inside. So what I'll do is, whenever I use my credit card, I'll withdraw money from my usual spending account and put it in the money box. That way, I can still track if I've overspend.

Sound troublesome, but better than overspending without knowing. So for the rest of the month, I think I'll just eat grass ba. Any kind soul willing to sponsor me some salad dressing?

Another murder

Another high profile murder case in Singapore. Another dismembered body found. But what is shocking this time is, the head was found at Orchard Road, near the MRT station. Which crazy murderer would dump part of the victim in orchard road?

These people are sick. You already murdered the person, why can't you let her have a full body at the funeral? Why did you bother to chop her up into so many pieces and dump them all over the place? And even if you want to dump the body, of all places you got to choose Orchard Road. Crazy. I know there is a say "The most dangerous place is the safest place". But this is not the case. You might as well dump the body behind the istana guard house!!

See lah, ganna arrested within 12 hours. Serve you right.

Sometimes, I really wonder what is in the mind of these murderer. Why can't they think of a proper place to dump the body? Look at that Ah Hao in Huang Na's case. He is at least smarter. He place the body in a box and threw it into the forested area in Telok Bangala Hill. At least it is much harder to find. It even took the police few hours to search for it after he told them where he threw the body. But too bad, he made a few mistakes when being investigated by the police. Else maybe the case would had still remained unsolved.

Then there is another case few month back where dismembered body were found along Kallang River. STUPID. Never ever throw the body into river. Confirm 100% wash back to shore. If you want to throw into water, go rent a boat, drive to the open sea and dump it there. Dump river sure wash back to shore 1.

Stupid fellow, don't even know where to dump a body. Singapore got so many nature reserves with thick forest. Just throw in the middle of the forest lah. Make sure it is deep in and no boy scout or NSF will pass thru that area. If possible, dig a hole and bury it. Or since you all like to cut the body, then cut it into small pieces and throw into the rubbish chutes lah. Best is for those new HDB flats where the whole block share 1 central chute. Make sure it's properly wrapped up in plastic bag.

Don't be a fool throw the body into Kallang River or in middle of Orchard road lah. You might as well put the body at the front door of Police Cantonment Complex.

Will I get into trouble if someone follows my suggestions on how to dump a body?

One override the other

Qn: What do you do when you have cravings for Fried Chicken and Potato chips when you are having a sore throat?

Ans: Buy Fried Chicken, Potato Chips and Strepsils and pray that the sore throat don't get worst tomorrow.

Another 1 of DK's "One override the other" theory. But this time, it's bigger.

Let's dig!!!

Ever wondered what is on the other side of the earth?

http://grad.icmc.usp.br/~cipriani/bighole.php?lang=en

This is an interesting program that tell you were will you end up in if you were to dig all the way down, thru the core and to the other side of the earth. (That is provided you don't melt while you are in the middle of the earth)

Reminds you of the stupid movie call The Core. Haha....

Oh ya, in case you are interested to know, the other side of Singapore will be Venezula. Hola!!!

How to fight?

Tag:

Seriously, was there a war in the 1st place? Apple fire another shot by releasing iPod Nano. Colour screen, light, thin and comes in black and white.

Well, creative, whom declared war with Apple some time back also have a MP3 player with the name Nano. Zen Nano Plus. Seriously.... cannot fight. What war? Creative never fired any shot at Apple. We only see them following the footsteps of Apple.

Soon we will see Creative and other iPod wanna be companies releasing thin MP3 players too. Wait, creative used to have a slim MP3 player call Muvo Slim. But also no fight lah.

You see, everyone is not interested about features of your MP3 player. They want style. Look at how iPod shuffle, a simple MP3 player with no screen at all manage to sell like hotcakes. Look at all the iPod series, do they have radio or voice recorder features? Nope.

People go for style.

The rest of the wannabe still don't get it.

The mess 2 month later

I look at my PDA today. It is in such a sorry state. No, physically, it is still in mint condition. But the internal software is in a mess. My PDA crashed when I returned from reservist in July. I think it must had miss me too much that it crashed the moment I use it when I come back from my incamp. I have no choice but to hard reset it and reinstall everything from my backup. But somehow, there seem to be some problem with the backup and some program cannot work.

It's Sept now. For 2 month, my PDA has been just a glorfied organiser. I didn't bother fixing those software that were having problem after the hard reset. I'm too pre-occupied by other stuff to fix it.

Comex 2005

Tag:

Ok, DON'T BOTHER going level 6. Got cheated by the stupid banner, asking us to go level 6. Level 6 is a food fair. Not PC show. The most advance gadget they have there is perhaps the espresso machine. And they not selling the espresso machine too. They are selling coffee. At least if they do sell the espresso machine, I will still be interested.

Anyway, don't go level 6 unless you are hungry.

Comex in Singapore is boring. We don't get big companies launching new products during the show unlike those they do in USA. It's more like a big market place selling gadget instead of a PC Show. Even home grown Creative don't launch their new product in our local PC show. What do you expect?

Sometimes, I do daydream myself being the CEO of some big IT company that make gadgets. And I dream myself launching the new product in these PC show in Singapore first before showcasing to the rest of the world. And people all over the world will flock to Singapore's PC show just to be the 1st person to see it.

Yes, Singapore is a small market. Why bother having a product launch here? But don't forget, you grow up in Singapore, your company started in Singapore. This is your roots. If you don't launch new product here, then who will?

Besides, with internet and newspaper, the rest of the world will get to know about your new product within a few days. So why not launch them at the country where your company started?

Sim, you reading this?
