Halloween

Tag:
5 year ago, most Singaporeans won't even know that 31 Oct is Halloween. But times has changed. More and more people are dressing up in interesting costume during Halloween. Look like the western culture is coming to this little red dot. Esp for the pubs and disco where they encourage customer to come dressed up for Halloween. Some give free entry for those dress in costume.

Just wondering, what if you didn't dress up as a monster or anything. Just in your normal wear but the bouncer let you enter the pub for free? Oops....

Happy Halloween.

US military death toll in Iraq hits 2,000

Tag:
My 1st reaction to this news was "SO?".

Don't misunderstand me. I am still human. I have feelings too. But while the headlines says 2000 US soldier had die since the start of Iraq war, did it mention the number of Iraqi civilians that died? I'm quite sure it has already passed the 2000 mark long time ago. So why should I feel sad for the 2000 soldiers who lost their life?

Nobody wanted to invade Iraq, except for Bush. Is he really after the WMD? Or is it because they got oil? If there is really WMD, then where is it? Stop lying to the world. Be a man and say the truth. Just say "There is really no WMD in Iraq, I'm just interested in the oil in Iraq"

At least, I'll see you as a man instead of a coward. After all, what do you have to lose? You are already in your 2nd term of office.

And even if you told the whole world that you are actually after the oil, what can we do about it? All the countries in the world united together cannot defeat you. After all, you got more WMD than everyone else in the world. So what can we do with you?

Maybe ChewOnIt suggestion is good....

Rude Taxi drivers

Just wondering, where has all the civil and moral education gone? We spend 6 years of our primary sch having this civil and moral education and yet I still see many rude people.

How many times have you tried walking by the road around midnite, and got honked by a taxi? No, you are not standing in the middle of the road. The taxi driver just wanted to attract your attention. Some will just tap the horn gently, some will honk more than a few times. Whichever the case is, honking is rude. Very rude. I always ignore the Taxi driver whenever they honk at me.

Even if I want to take a Taxi, I also don't want to take yours. I rather wait for another 1. Why should I accept the service of such a rude driver? I know there are a lot of Taxi along the road and all you drivers out there are desperate for customer. But that doesn't give you a reason to honk at potential customer.

If you are reading this, please join me in refusing service from rude Taxi drivers who honk at customer.

I don't know why, but I've been honked by Taxi drivers twice last week. Its quite frustrating when you want to enjoy the peaceful walk. They honk at me while I'm walking at the road site and slow down beside me. Not those short gentle honk, but those few continuous honk as if I'm blocking their way or something. I'll just stare back at them, raise my hand to gesture a "What the heck do you think you doing" sign. And they will just drive away, looking for another person to honk at.

Is there really a need to use the horn? Why can't they just drive slow down next to me to see if I need a cab?

Just a warning: The next idiotic Taxi driver who honk at me will get a good scolding from me, his car number taken down and a complaint letter send to the Taxi company. Please warn any Taxi driver that you know.

My Oasis

If you want to find me on a friday night, your best bet would be the coffee bean at forum. Yeap, I was here 3 friday nights in a month. And I always stay until past midnite.

Iris once asked me why do I like coming to coffee bean to surf net, when I can jolly surf at home, in the comfort of my bed or sofa. But I love surfing outdoors. Its different from being at home. You get to see car passing by, people walking down orchard road and many interesting stuff.

And most importantly, the coffee. You'll never get such good coffee while at home. How I wish I had an espresso machine at home.

I love coffee bean. I am a coffee person. But if you let me choose between coffee bean and starbucks, I'll take coffee bean. I don't know why, their Ice Blended simply taste better.

But its quite hard to find company for coffee. Lazing around doing nothing but drinking a nice cup of coffee. Most people would prefer shopping, or movies or something else than to sit for a few hours just for a cup of coffee. And I gave up finding kakis for coffee.

I used to have a buddy who also enjoyed sitting at cafe whole day drinking coffee. But we lost contact ever since she found herself a boyfriend. (Oh ya, my buddy is a gal)

Then there was ZhenZhen. We went for coffee quite a number of times, sitting on the bean bag at Boat Quay TCC, enjoying coffee and talking about anything under the sun. Really enjoyed those times together. But she is always busy and it's rather hard to jio her out sometimes.

Luckily, I found someone else to company me at coffee bean. My T43. She will always be there for me when I want to go coffee bean. Keeping me company so that I will not be bored. But she can only company me for around 3 hours each time, cause low batt lah. Hahaha.....

Oh ya..... if you are wondering, yeap, I am blogging this at coffee bean, with a glass of Mocha Ice Blended beside me. Life is just pure enjoyment.

X-mas is coming???

Saw this at cold storage yesterday. Pure madness. They started selling X-mas crackers already? It's only late Oct. Eh HELLO?!?!?! X-mas is end Dec leh. Wake up!!!

Oh well.... Singaporeans displaying their kiasuism again.....

And if you walk pass CK Tangs, you would notice that they are putting up the X-mas deco too..... Crazy.
Now the last thing I wanna hear is a X-mas song in Oct. A small request to all the YES933, Class 95 and WKRZ913 DJ.... PLEASE DO NOT start playing X-mas song now. X-mas is still 2 months away.

I just hate it when they attempt to "create" the X-mas mood too early, until when X-mas come, you are already sick of all the X-mas carol and stuff.

Worldwide Press Freedom Index 2005

Worldwide Press Freedom Index 2005

Singapore is in position 140.
What a shame. What a shame.

Ok, we will most prob not be seeing this article on our local newspaper. This is sad. We lost to Philippines (139), Afghanistan (125), Nigeria(123), Rwanda (122) and Sri Lanka (115).

Even Malaysia come in at position 113. What a shame. I'm so disgraced.

Okie, on a happier note, at least we are better than Laos (155), Iraq (157) and North Korea (167). I hope the Govt will do something or we'll end up losing to North Korea (who is now at the bottom of the index)

Xiao Qiang & Xiao Rou

I hate killing Xiao Qiang.

In case you don't know, Xiao Qiang is a cockroach. Stephen Chow started the trend by calling a cockroach "Xiao Qiang" in 1 of his movies and soon after, everyone start calling cockroach as Xiao Qiang.

Anyway, I hate to kill Xiao Qiang. Not that I'm scare of them. I ok with them so long as they don't crawl or fly towards me. But I don't like to kill them. Usually if they don't get in my way, I'll give them a "life road" and let them get out of my house. It is only when they get in my way will I take out that bottle of Bygone to kill them.

It's not that I'm trying to be a good person and let the Xiao Qiang live. It's that I don't like the idea of using Bygone. It's poison, and you want me to spray it all over the place? Does it have any side effect on humans? What if i spray on the wall, and someone's hand touch that area, then use their hands to touch their eyes or something? The thought of it is scary.....

Then the other reason why I hate to use bygone is that the Xiao Qiang will run like mad after spraying. Usually I'll know where it run to. But there will be sometimes when I'll lose track of it and don't know where the body go. And that is disgusting. Imagine a Xiao Qiang body rotting behind the sofa seat or something. GROSS.....

Was talking about Xiao Qiang to Iris. She was asking what if the cockroach is a female? Xiao Qiang means "Little Strong". A very suitable name for male, but not for female.

So, if the cockroach is a female, we should call it Xiao Rou ("Little Gentle").

I love reading my friends' blog. There are somethings that you don't know about your friends even if you were to go out with them virtually everyday. But blog is different. Blog bring friendship to a different level. It is thru blog that you can know more about your friends.

Recently, it been heart aching to read the blog of 1 of my friend. I know something is wrong thru reading her blog. But I cannot tell what is it exactly. She is those type that don't like to speak out her problems.

I just hope she can pick up herself soon and carry on walking..... Take care.

They found me.....

I don know if it is safe to reveal this.... They lost my IPPT record last year.
Meaning, I didn't pass my IPPT last year, but they din ask me to go for Remedial Training (RT). There was some error in the MIW website. I couldn't book for RT. So I ignore it and wait for SAF100 to come. But it didn't come. But this time, I log in MIW and see the option for me to book RT now......

They found me.... I don't know how but they found me.... RUN!!!!
I mean run 2.4 and shutter run lah. Me no chao keng personnel. :P

Its funny, birthday is suppose to be something good. But this yr, I ganna stupid errors from china outsource people, SPAM from OCBC and now RT..... Maybe there is really nothing much to look forward to on your birthday.....

I'm not some chao keng personnel. I'm Pes B and in combat vocation. I never keng during my NSF times. I report for my ICT every year without fail. (okie, I did grumble before stepping in the camp) I feel that it is every singaporean guy's duty to serve the nation.

But IPPT? oh crap.... I hate IPPT. IPPT gold so what? Cannot shoot accurate also no use. Run so fast for what? Jungle so thick, you also cannot run fast. Jump so far for what? You carry heavy load also cannot jump far.

You see, physical fitness and combat fitness are 2 different things. I don't know why they bother so much about physical fitness.

We are soldier, not sportman. End of the day, I still can go into battle with my full battle order and defeat the 'enemy'..... that is more important than chin up, sit up, standing board jump, shutter run and 2.4km run. After all, if another country attack us, do you think they bother if your 2.4km can do below 9:45min?

Oh well.... wat to do? A man got to do what a man got to do. I know I can't pass my IPPT. My upper body has always been weaker. I can run fast, but I suck at chin up. Let see if the RT can train me up so that I can pass this IPPT and get over with it. After all, I used to be near gold standard during my NSF period.

Ok, so where did I left my running shoes??

"Mee Siam" card got deactivated

Sunday Times did a little bit of investigative reporting by having their reporters sign fake signatures while making credit card purchase. Most of the cashier didn't notice that, and the reporters wrote a letter to the company asking for "explanation".

My 1st reaction when reading that article was, head will roll. Can imagine the company trying to find out which staff was at the cashier at that time and the poor person must be in deep shit now.

But what is the purpose of a signature on your credit card? With or without the signature, the transaction is still valid. So why bother about the signature? Besides, someone can also try to fake your signature since it is written on the back of the card. So why bother about the signature?

The article serves no purpose at all. The best way to prevent fraud is to report the lost of your card asap. The signature is not a security measure at all. It can be easily faked by the person who found your card. So why bother? These reporters only create trouble for the poor cashier.

On a lighter note, one of the picture they use for the report shows the credit card number, CVC code and the signature. The reporter, with the nick name "Mee Siam" got to cancel his card.

Serve you right.....

Treo on Window Mobile

Tag:

It took me quite some time to accept the fact that Palm (Once known as PalmOne) is going to release a Treo running Window Mobile platform. After all, Palm and Window Mobile has always been rival.

But after sitting down, and think about it, you feel that it is actually something inevitable. Treo is a very good product, the only shortcoming is that it is unable to convert Window Mobile die hard fans out there. If Palm don't do anything about it, they might end up losing that pie to other Treo wannabe. Palm understand that it cannot survive on palmOS alone. It has to make device on other OS. Although it is sad to see that they choose Window Mobile, but it is the best choice available. After all, revenues made from Window Mobile devies will ensure that Palm doesn't close down. If palm doesn't close down, it will contuine to make PalmOS device.

Some might argue that it might cause existing Treo user to jump to Windows Mobile. But on the other hand, it might also cause some Window Mobile users to jump over to PalmOS. So what difference does it make?

Another worries from PalmOS die hard fans is that Palm might neglect PalmOS and change its focus on Window Mobile. But I personally feel that so long as there is a market for palmOS device, we will contuine to see palm making them.

Nothing much will change when palm release window mobile treo. But this move is maybe a wake up call for PalmSource.

PalmOS market share has been decreasing rapidly lately. Not because PalmOS is not good enough. But PalmSource failed to get enough quality companies to produce device on PalmOS platform. 2005 see Sony and Tapwave leaving PalmOS. Lesser companies making PalmOS device means lesser palmOS device owner and lesser developer willing to release software on palmOS platform. Although LG will be coming out with a plamOS phone, I don't think it is enough to fight with Dell and HP whom are leaders in Windows Mobile.

I don't want to make this post a PalmOS vs Window Mobile thread. It's a pointless debate. Both have their own pros and cons. They suits different group of people. Just like some people look better in T-shirt while other look better in tubes. It really depends on the person. But seriously, if PalmSource want to gain back the lost market share, they really need to get in some hardware superpower to license their OS.

I personally hope that Lenovo (which bought over IBM's laptop and desktop business) will license PalmOS. IBM has experience in palmOS device. Although nothing special since it is the same as Palm's device. But Lenovo is the only major hardware maker that is not under window mobile. I believe with Lenovo's position, it should be able to bring palmOS device to the china market and the rest of the world.
