Philips Blogger Experience Breakfast
I attended a very interesting blogger event last Saturday by Philips organized by Fleishman-Hillard. It was an exclusive blogger breakfast event held at Corduroy Cafe, Vivo City. When I got the invite from Sabrina, my first reaction was "HUH? 9:50am on a Saturday morning?" Not again lor. I woke up early the previous Saturday to attend the Tech65’s 50th podcast. Why do they like to have events on Saturday morning?
But I didn’t regret waking up early and attending the event. It was very well organized and I’m very impressed with Fleishman-Hillard, Philips and Corduroy Cafe from the moment I step into the place till I left. I bump into Sheylara and Daphne on my way to the place. The moment we reach the cafe, we were greeted by an intern from Fleishman-Hillard. (I forgotten her name. Damn) Once registration is done, we proceed in and was greeted by staff from Philips and Fleishman-Hillard. They curtained up the whole place to block out the morning sun.
The breakfast was great. They got pancakes, hashbrowns, brownies, salads, puddings and some i-don-know-what-is-that-call but-it-taste-good. The coffee taste good too. (But I still prefer Danny’s Mocha at Geek Terminal) After the breakfast and some chatting with fellow bloggers, we took our seats and watch an impressive demonstration of Philips Ambilight and Ambisound.
Basically, Ambilight is the light you see behind the screen. Yes, the lights behind the screen are coming from the HDTV itself. The system actually detects the image being displayed on the screen and reflects a light on the wall behind it. For example, if the scene is mostly green, the HDTV will shine a green light on the wall behind it. The lights actually the screen seems larger and a gives you a more immersive viewing experience. We were shown movie trailers with Ambilight on and off. The difference is huge.
Ambisound is a way to deliver 5.1 surround sound without having physical speakers behind you. The whole system is just a speaker (which matches the HDTV well) and a woofer. It’s good for those who don’t want the hassle of doing cabling and stuff. I’m not a sound expert, but the effect is good. I used to have 5.1 surround sound speakers for my PC. Although Ambisound isn’t as good as having real physical speakers at your back, it is the best thing you can get from a speaker and a woofer placed infront of you.
And the most impressive part is that both Ambilight and Ambisound are designed by Singaporeans. Woo Hoo! Good job guys!
The door gift is great too. We were given a folder with press release statement/materials, discount voucher to buy and also a Philips Imageo Candle light. It’s beautiful. The light bulb is in a beautiful glass and gives you those candle light feeling. It has a rechargeable battery inside and comes with a nice charging base. To turn on and off, you just need to tilt the glass. The lights create a very romantic ambience. Thinks my girlfriend loves it. :D
The whole event is not a sales talk. They are not interested in selling the product to us. We bloggers are treated more like media and the whole event is like a press event rather than a blogger event. We were even given a folder with press release materials inside. I’m very impressed by the way the whole event goes. Glad that companies like Philips are ready to engage the new media. And thumbs up to Fleishman-Hillard for organizing such a great event.
It is nice to meet several bloggers friends at the event. Had the chance to catch up with several of them. I also got the chance to meet a few bloggers for the first time. It's good to be able to put a face to some of the blog that I've been reading. The guys at Philips were actually surprised that most of us know each other.
Thanks to Philips and Fleishman-Hillard for organizing such a great event.
Thanks to Sabrina for inviting me.
Thanks to Wee Teck for those beautiful pictures.
PS: Please excuse me for this late entry. Been rather busy lately.
