Plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery

After the "Attack of the ping.sg clone", we see another website trying to copy the success of ping.sg. This time, it is innit from Nuffnang.

I always feel that plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery. And this time, it's by a commercial entity. I bet Uzyn must be jumping in joy now.

Something interesting. The top 10 most popular entry does not have a time frame unlike ping.sg where the top 10 is valid for 24 hours. Which means it is hard to knock someone down the chart once they made it there. Cause we all know that people usually click on the top 10 entries.

But judging from the title of the top 10 entries, I doubt it would be an issue.

Update: After more playing, I discovered that it's not really similar to Ping.sg. In ping.sg, whenever you click on the entry, it's counted as a "Pong". But for innit, you need to click on the "Nang it" it count as a "Nang".

In another word, not much flattery. Sigh.

Who knows, maybe the counter is not shown? Or posts will just magically drop off after a while?

Arzhou: Don't think so. The top post is 2 days old already.

Yea, click doesn't translate into Nangs.

No time limit for the top posts?
Good for the top10, bad for the rest. I think they will fix that pretty soon.

More like Digg lah.. But the layout is like ping.sg with the top 10 on the top etc...

lly: Yeap yeap. I think the top10 will be fixed pretty soon. Well, don't think that will be an issue.

ntt: Yeap yeap. At first I thought it's more like ping.

*BLAME the blogger who didn't do enough research before blogging*

too quick to jump the gun fanboy... lol...

Fanboy? Where got?

Aiya... Bloggers are like that one mah. At least I corrected it as soon as I discovered the difference. Paiseh lah.

But like ntt said, the layout look similar.

I don't think that plagiarism. Wont that be saying ping.sg copying idea from digg/reddit. Same goes as social networking site like facebook, myspace or friendster.

Anyway, it's a matter of choice or communities. Some get good traffic fr ping and some get from innit. As long there exposure for traffic, everyone is happy.

hahaa like that also can consider plagiarism?

mr simplicity: Ya. At first I thought it is working the same as ping.sg. After checking further, I discovered that it's abit different. My fault here.

astro: Sorry lah. My mistake here. Didn't check properly. Next time I'll check properly before wacking. :P

no lar..what i mean that even they have more or less the same thing...also not really plagiarism. In Internet it is common for people to build upon each other ideas and certain ideas are more or less base on "common knowledge", otherwise i believe ping would have go and try to file a patent :)

Astro: I doubt you can file an actual patent for a web feature, for the code yes, but not the feature since there are many ways to achieve the same thing.
