Hair bands made from recycled condom

Warning: Got this from email. I can't verify if real or hoax.

From the country that gives you fake iPod, fake eggs and fake milk powder.... here comes fake hair bands!

Ok, not really fake hair bands. But hair bands made from recycled condom. Whatever.... still very gross.

Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands in southern China, threatening to spread sexually-transmittable diseases they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported Tuesday
In the latest example of potentially harmful Chinese-made products, rubber hair bands have been found in local markets and beauty salons in Dongguan and Guangzhou cities in southern Guangdong province, China Daily newspaper said.
'These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties sell well ... threatening the health of local people,' it said.
Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said.
'People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns,' the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying.
A bag of ten of the recycled bands sells for just 25 fen (three cents), much cheaper than others on the market, accounting for their popularity, the paper said.
A government official was quoted as saying recycling condoms was illegal.
China's manufacturing industry has been repeatedly tarnished this year by a string of scandals involving shoddy or dangerous goods made for both domestic and foreign markets.
In response, it launched a public relations blitz this summer aimed at playing up efforts to strengthen monitoring systems.

Or maybe they are defective condom rejected by the factory? Or something that looks like condom? Cause if you think about it, how they find so much used condom to begin with?

But you must really salute to the guy for coming up with this idea.

Do let me know if you have any reliable sources to proof that it is real or hoax. I tried to google about this and found several forum discussion claiming that it is fake. But then someone posted more pictures of the fake hair bands.

So is it real or fake? Judge for yourself.

I had the same concerns as you. But I was sceptical about this so I decided to find out for myself.

And this is what i found out :

And yes, I was really shocked to see what came out of the rubber band.

But after a while, I realised that it isnt viable to use *used* condoms with all the extra work involved, cleaning, washing, etc.

I think that these condoms used in the rubber bands are the ones that are rejected by the condom factory. Its actually a good way for recycling things, when you think of it.

Oh man! Although it may be clean and all, but I can't imagine wearing a condom on my hair leh!

Rubber bands will be easier to wrap around right?
