The Night ERP Theory

Ok, as most people know, the CTE will start the night Electronic Road Pricing from 1st Aug. Meaning drivers who use the CTE at night between 6 to 8pm will need to pay. This, according to the govt, will ease the traffic jam.

Since everyone need to pay when using the CTE before 8pm, they might as well stay back and go home later. Maybe stay in office and do some more work. Or go window shopping along orchard road.

Sound easy? Not quite.

You see, everyone stay back to work overtime will make them tired. That reduce the productivity and performance. Everyone go shopping after work will make them bored of shopping. Besides, people are not much of a buying mood after work. They spend more during weekends. But if they keep shopping during weekdays, they will go out less often during weekends. Going out less often during weekend means shop earn less.

Okie lah, still not so bad. But here is the real ERP theory.

You see, CTE is always jammed up not just because of the poor design. It is also a major road serving many New Towns. If you live in Bishan, TPY, AMK, YCK, Yishun, Woodlands, SengKang, Hougang and Ponggol, you'll need to use CTE to get home from city. This is unlike the town in Eastern and Western side of singapore where it is served by 2 expressway.

But the New Town in Eastern and Western side of singapore are mainly matured town. While those in the north are still fairly new estate. Where many young newly wed couple make their home there.

Now, if young couple go home late, they have less time for "intimate" moments at home. Thus resulting in less sex and falling birth rate. The birth rate is already declining. The night ERP will further decrease the birth rate. This is what we call action and effect.

Which 1 would you prefer? A small jam that cause people to reach home slightly later, or night ERP that make everyone go home late and falling birth rate? You do the caculations.

I'm not kidding. We will not see the impact now, but wait a few yr, and you will notice a drop in birth rates in those new town. Hope the govt know about this and make a U-turn now before it's too late. As for me, it's none of my business. I don't drive, I don't work in town area and I don't drive.
