A public apology for the “One Night Stand” blog entry

I know it is going to be controversial when I posted that article on "One Night Stand". The whole entry is meant promote awareness for Free Rice and at the same time as a joke. I know some of you felt offended because I use misleading topic and text in ping.sg to attract attention. Although I did apologize in that post itself, the reaction I get is rather mixed. Some feels that it is ok while others thinks that I shouldn't have done it.

I know it is not the right thing to do. But sometimes I feel sad that important entries aren’t getting the attention it requires on ping.sg. I personally feels that the Free Rice website is a brilliant idea. My initial entry on Free Rice only attracted 6 pongs from ping.sg. I feel that such a post need more attention. Feeling helpless, I resort to using misleading title to generate awareness. That misleading post hit top 10 within 40 minutes and has a total of 186 pongs till now. I know it is wrong, but I hope you understand that I’m doing this for the sake of charity.

Please except my sincere apologise for the misleading title in the “One Night Stand” blog entry.

And please continue to support Free Rice. Help spread the words about this fantastic website.

This entry also receive alot of pongs. :P

Btw, Free Rice is in Facebook too. Thought you might be interested to know. ;)

no worries la you were just doing your part

Sorry to be critical, but your apology begs this question. Are you saying "sorry" but you will still continue to do things this way, or you're sorry and will not ever do this again?

It sounds to me it is the former.

I can appreciate your good intentions. But please remember there is a difference between doing the right thing and doing things right.

Ping.sg is largely a playground. So this is really a trivial issue. But on a serious note, I hope you wouldn't carry this attitude into other areas of life.

hmmm...Dk i felt sorry for you, seems that that will alway be people looking at it the hard way.

P.S. No matter how gd, noble, staint u are, one mistake and u are doubted etc etc etc...Hard facts of life.

Wokking Mum: Yeap, saw a couple of apps for Free Rice. Well, still prefer the website itself. :)

Xueyu: Thx. :)

Anon: Good question. Actually I haven't thought of that yet. I think I'll decide what to do when we reach another situation again.

Bypassing: What to do? You can't please everybody right?

DK, congrats...you have simply used your knowledge of how the ping.sg audience is motivated..this knowledge may help people who are less fortunate than most of the ping community... large advertising firms for years have mislead consumers...you did this for a good cause they do so for greed....

Hi DK,

I have a suggestion. Instead of using misleading titles to attract pongs, U can actually place a permanent ads for FreeRice FOC at your blog (just like those u see in ping.sg). I think in the long run it would have greater impact.

I am going to do the same thing(placing charity ads FOC), though my blog doesn't have high traffic. What do u think of my suggestion?

TUW: I've thought of doing that too. But been busy with other stuff. No time to amend my template.

Don't worry about it, ur intention is good :) interesting site btw :)

Jacelyn: Thanks a lot. :D
