Shirlyn Tan - Couldn't We Try

Been putting this song on repeat for the whole day. Somehow it's a reflection of my current mood and thoughts. Am still listening to it now on repeat. The more I listen to it, the more I see myself.

Put down the fences that you built around
Shutting me out giving me no chance to say I'm sorry
Going crazy since the day you said goodbye
Couldn't we stand by each other
Couldn't we try

Been searching youtube for this song, but can't find any.
Tried searching for the lyrics too, but also return none. The only site with the lyrics of this song is at shirlyntan.com. But the lyrics is in flash format and I couldn't copy it out.

Took the effort to type out the lyrics. Perhaps for the next person who is feeling down to copy and paste into his blog.

Shirlyn Tan - Couldn't We Try

I was hoping we could be
Sitting at the door looking out to sea
I was hoping we could be
Making up plans, start a new life
Just you and me

I was hoping we could be
Counting the stars above, feeling free
I was hoping we could be
What we always wanted when we found the one we love eternally

Oh my love, can't you see
This time we spend apart is a sad sad aching misery
Oh my love baby baby baby
I lost myself without you next to me

I'm just sitting by myself
Making up a lonely song, sing to me
I'm just drinking by myself
All the walls closing in
I run around to find my sanity

Oh my love, can't you see
This time we spend apart is a sad sad aching misery
Oh my love I'm waiting waiting waiting
I can't turn back time but I want you to know
That I love you so

Put down the fences that you built around
Shutting me out giving me no chance to say I'm sorry
Going crazy since the day you said goodbye
Couldn't we stand by each other
Couldn't we try try try

Put down the fences that you built around
Shutting me out giving me no chance to say I'm sorry
Going crazy since the day you said goodbye
Couldn't we stand by each other
Couldn't we try

I was hoping we could be,
Making up a song, singing it together in harmony
I was hoping we could be
Falling in love all over again
We could be

Appreciation

Got an email from my director today morning.

Hi all,

Since Project M is launched in Jan. We have been doing XXX.

It had been a long struggling for us to fix this problem. Many of our man hours were put in to prevent this from becoming to a disaster.

Together with our AAA department colleagues, we managed to stablise this.

I am pleased to inform since, 20 Aug, we are no longer doing XXX. The exceptions are now being handled thru the normal channel.

As a token of appreciation of your hardwork and perseverance in fixing this, I would like to invite you for a small lunch

Date: Fri, 31st Aug
Time: 12.30noon - 2pm
Venue: Meeting Room A
Food - Pizza, muffin, old chang kee curry puff, coffee and tea and maybe some fruits.

PS - AAA department colleagues will be joining us too.

I still remember being super duper busy during Feb because of this. So busy that I was OT-ing every night. So busy that I almost need to come back to office on the 2nd day of chinese new year. So busy that I hardly had any time to company my gf at that time. (Someone said that maybe we won't break up if I wasn't that busy during that period. I wasn't sure about it.)

Well, at least it is over. I'm glad I was part of the team in solving the error. It gave me a chance to show everyone my full capabilities.

Its nice that our director decided to give everyone involved a treat. Although it's just a small token of appreciation, it is the thoughts that really counts.

Sometimes, I don't mind doing a lot. End of the day, I just want to be appreciated.

Diana, Princess of Wales (1 July 1961 - 31 August 1997)

Your candles burned out long before, Your legend ever will.

It has been 10 years already. Still remember watching the live broadcast of the funeral. Almost cried while listening to Sir Elton John singing Candle in the wind. Her death was a great lost, not only to England, but also to the world.

And it really seems to me that she live her life like a candle in the wind. She knew that the media is always around her. She played with them, make use of them and bring them to places that requires media attention. From the Angolan minefield to the sickbed of a man with AIDS. She used the media attention on her to help gain public awareness and improve the world. But unknown to her, it is the media that causes her death in the end.

Goodbye England's rose. We miss you.

Elton John - Candle in the wind 1997

Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Loveliness we've lost
These empty days without your smile
This torch we'll always carry
For our nation's golden child
And even though we try
The truth brings us to tears
All our words cannot express
The joy you brought us through the years

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned our long before
Your legend ever will

Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
Goodbye England's rose
From a country lost without your soul
Who'll miss the wings of your compassion
More than you'll ever know

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And you footsteps will always fall here
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend ever will

Tears

Sometimes I think that it is because I cried too much when I was young, that why I couldn't cry now.

I still remember that I was a crybaby when I was young. Crying over small matters. I know it was bad. But as I grow older, I begin to cry lesser and lesser. Until now when I find it hard to cry anymore.

It was so bad that sometimes when I was feeling sad or hurt, I would try to force myself to cry. Tears are amazing things. They warm your face and comfort you when you at feeling down. They dry up on your cheek and encourages you to stand up again and move on.

I still remember several times when I was feeling so hurt that I wish I could cry but I just simply can't. The feeling was terrible. I was already feeling that bad already, why couldn't I shed some tears to comfort myself. Sometimes, it would take a few days of continuous pain and sadness for me to shed a few drops of tears. I was sad, yet glad and comforted when the tears flows across my cheek.

-----------------

I wish I could cry tonight. Am only human. There is only this much pain I can endure. For the first time ever, the thought of giving up occurs in my mind. But I couldn't bear to put down everything and walk away as if nothing ever happen. There is too much to lose.

It's really painful, yet the tears just won't flow.

Workers' Party should not be allowed to hold cycling event

I was pretty shocked when I heard that the Workers' Party wanted to hold a cycling event at East Coast Park on 9 Sept in conjunction with its 50th anniversary. How could these opposition parties be so irresponsible? Don’t they know the social implication caused by such events? Thankfully, our efficient Singapore Police Force rejected their application for a permit. I don’t dare to imagine the social disorder that might happen if such dangerous events are given the green light.

And these opposition party really too much. They still have the cheek to ask during Parliament why their permit was rejected. Stop wasting time at Parliament. We got more important things to discuss at Parliament like minister pay increment, GST hike, public transport hike and ERP hike. Who cares about your cycling activities? (Well, unless you are going to install an In-vehicle Unit and cycle thru the new ERP gantry) Luckily we only got 2 opposition members in Parliament. I couldn’t imagine the amount of time wasted if more of you guys get elected.

Luckily our Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, Prof Ho Peng Kee was quick reply the questions post by the opposition. "Police requirement is that such party activities be held indoors or within stadiums, so that any law and order problems will be contained. This policy applies to all political parties,"

I totally agree with Prof Ho. Our Singapore Police Force are not able to contain any law and order problem outdoor created by your cycling event. They are already very tired already. So tired that they have to sleep in multi storey carpark. They can’t even handle the social disorder cause by 40 gays jogging along Singapore River. What makes you think they can handle your big group of cyclist? You guys aren’t the ruling party who will behave themselves during large outdoor events. Everybody knows that opposition party members are well known to create trouble outdoor. We seen it couple of times outside CPF building and Hong Lim Park.

And Prof Ho also added that "You may be well-behaving, but there may be other people whom you come across when you cycle who may stop you, may want to debate with you and that may attract a crowd, and therefore will result in problems the police want to avoid." I find this statement very true. We all know that supporters of opposition parties like SDP and SDA will not debate with WP since they are on the same boat. But PAP supporters will since they have different political point of views. That is 66.6% of the Singapore population vs your small group of supporters. Imagine what will happen if all 66.6% of them were to go ECP on that day and challenge you guys to a debate. And also, Prof Ho cannot control his supporters and tell them not to go ECP to disturb your cycling event. Just go to their YPAP forum and you can see that it’s pretty out of hand. What if they bring the online flaming offline? So for the safety of the WP members, the cycling event cannot go on. It’s for your own good.

Really. The PAP actually care and concern about the safety of WP members. Outdoor political events are too dangerous. Only the ruling party are capable to hold outdoor events safely. That is why the police always approve the permit application by the ruling party. The opposition party can’t do it in a orderly manner. Better to hold your event indoor and cycle in a multi purpose hall.

And I’m sure Mr Low is wearing his hearing aid. But he confirm isn’t wearing his thinking aid. Well… at least not the type of thinking aid that Prof Ho was wearing.

Trisha Yearwood - How Do I Live

Starting to find me asking myself this question.

Trisha Yearwood - How Do I Live

How do I
Get through one night without you
If I had to live without you
What kind of life would that be?
Oh I need you in my arms
Need you to hold
Your my world my heart my soul
If you ever leave
Baby you'd take away everything good in my Life.

And tell me now
How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breathe without you
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I
How do I
O how do I live?.

Without you
There'd be no sun in my sky
There would be no love in my life
There would be no world left for me
And I
Baby I don't know what I would do
I would be lost if I lost you
If you ever leave
Baby you would take away everything real in My life

And tell me now
How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breathe without you
If you ever go
How do I ever ever survive?
How do I
How do I
O how do I live?...

Please tell me baby..

How do I go on?
If you ever leave
Well baby you would take away everything
Need you with me
Baby don't you know your everything good in My life

And tell me now
How do I live without you
I want to know
How do I breathe without you
If you ever go
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I
How do I
O how do I live

How do I live without you
How do I live without you baby.......
How do I live....

I need to cut down on the "eerr..."

I didn't notice that I'm suppose to chair the meeting until the day before the meeting itself. You see, normally it is my sub teamlead who chair the meeting. But she put me in charge of this request this time round. It didn't occur to me that it also means chairing the meeting.

It was a simple request, thus I didn't know what to prepare before hand. And perhaps it is because I was under prepared, that why I don't really know what to say. And I committed the worst mistake anyone can ever commit when making a presentation.... over using of the word "eeerrr....".

Serious. And the worst thing was, I actually knew I was over using the word "eeerrr..." but I just couldn't stop myself from doing it. I notice that I was actually using the "eeerrr...." time to think about what to say next. I was presenting my points and thinking to myself "Hello DK, stop saying eeerrr". But I can't.

This is bad.... very bad. I used to be able present things without much problems. I think it is because of lack of practice. Lack of chance to do public speaking. Need to do something about it.

She forgot to say "and world peace"

Still trying to figure out what is she trying to say. Iraq? South Africa? Who mentioned anything about them?

Or did she prepared for a question that require Iraq and South Africa as answer? Hmmm.....

Or is she trying to demonstrate why 1/5 of Americans cannot read maps?

DK vs You Crazy What?! burger

Someone challenged me to finish the You Crazy What?! burger by myself last Tuesday. It is not just a plain You crazy what?! burger. It's a cheese You Crazy What?! burger set meal to be exact.

The burger was huge. 450grams of beef, covered with cheese and lots of fries. The height of the 3 beef patty stacked together is enough to scare you.

How can anyone finish that?

I start slow.... taking each bite slowly to enjoy the taste. The burger taste great, especially with the cheese. But its going to be damn filling.

10 minutes later, I completed 1 patty.

Pause to take some picture and take a break. Had a short walk to the drink stall to get some water to flush down the meat. It is going to be a long night.

I picked up some speed and finished the 2nd patty within 8 minutes.

Was beginning to struggle at the end of the 2nd patty. Left with 1 last patty. The 3rd patty is the toughest. Couldn't really get it down. Spend 15 minutes trying to eat 1/2 of the patty.

At this point, I am beginning to feel the patty stacking in my throat already. Really can't take much more. Tried drinking more water to flush the meat down, but it is not helping much. A walk to the toilet to exercise myself also didn't help much.

At last, I surrender. Couldn't take it anymore. Don't want to puke out the food or over stuff myself. I throw the white flag.

I stopped here.

It wasn't that bad. The patty is gone. Left with some fries, bread and veg.

So final score, DK 0 - 1 You crazy what?! burger.

PS: I'm not going to eat another You crazy what?! burger for the next 6 months. You all want to jio me go Botak Jones still can, I'll have anything but You Crazy What?! burger.

Lunar eclipse on 28 Aug 2007

There will be a total lunar eclipse tomorrow (28 Aug 2007). Looks like a big event with discovery channel doing live streaming of the eclipse. Cool huh?

We will not be able to see the entire eclipse in Singapore. But if we are lucky, we should be able to see the total eclipse for roughly 10 minutes and see the ending partial eclipse.

Below are the timing to take note if you want to view the eclipse.

Partial Eclipse Starts: 1552hr
Total Eclipse Starts: 1837hr
Singapore Moon Rise: 1910hr
Total Eclipse Ends: 1922hr (2 degree above ground level)
Partial Eclipse Ends: 2023hr (17 degree above ground level)

(Note: All timing is in Singapore time. GMT +8)

The moon will rise at 1910hr on 28 Aug. The total eclipse will end around 1922hr and we will see the moon slowly get out of the eclipse between 1922hr to 2023hr. Try looking towards the eastern horizon tomorrow evening.

Oh ya.... and pray for a cloud-less evening.

Dan Hill - Sometimes When We Touch

Was listening to Olivia's version of "Sometimes when we touch" in her latest. Her voice are sweet and really bring out the emotions of this song. Love it a lot. Been putting the song on repeat for the whole night. The song brings back some sweet memories.

Too bad I couldn't find Olivia's version in youtube.

Dan Hill - Sometimes When We Touch

You ask me if I love you
And I choke on my reply
I'd rather hurt you honestly
Than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you
On what you say or do?
I'm only just beginning to see the real you

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

Romance and all its strategy
Leaves me battling with my pride
But through the insecurity
Some tenderness survives
I'm just another writer
Still trapped within my truth
A hesitant prize fighter
Still trapped within my youth

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

At times I'd like to break you
And drive you to your knees
At times I'd like to break through
And hold you endlessly

At times I understand you
And I know how hard you've tried
I've watched while love commands you
And I've watched love pass you by

At times I think we're drifters
Still searching for a friend
A brother or a sister
But then the passion flares again

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

Too Long For Twitter, Too Short For Blog #8

Blog day
OK, someone registered a website and declared that 31 Aug is blog day. And what do you do on blog day? You blog. Haha. OK, seriously, they say you should recomment 5 blogs on that day.

But who are they to decide 31 Aug is blog day. Hmmmm....

Lip Syncing To The Song
Didn't know that there is actually such a song.

Feel like doing lip syncing someday too. :D

Hardest question on earth

The hardest question that facebook's compare people can ask.

How do I make a choice?

Problem with wireless@sg
Why doesn't IDA believe that the wireless@sg sucks?

Seriously, if I ever have a good video camera, I'll take video of my laptop screen when using wireless@sg. Then you guys will see how bad the random disconnection is.

Handphone back from hospital
Send my handphone to repair because the navigation joystick is having some problems. I heard that it is a common problem with Sony Ericsson phones that are using joystick. No complains since I really love my K800i. One of the best phone I ever had.

When I got back my phone, the technical support guy told me they changed the entire motherboard. I was pretty shocked. He said that the joystick is connected to the motherboard, and the only way they can replace it is to replace the whole motherboard. Hmmmm.... You mean everyone who go to the service centre with joystick problem, you will change the entire motherboard? Wow.... that isn't very cost efficient leh.

So I got back my phone with a new motherboard. Errr.... in short, I only got back my casing. The rest of the phone is brand new.

Why don't you guys just give me a new phone instead? Hahahaha.....

My friend math fail

A friend of my MSN me today telling me to go apply for Starhub mobile broadband. He was saying the $5 plan is good and cheap. Very worth it.

So I went to Starhub website to look at the plan. The $5.35 plan only gives $20 worth of surfing. And each kb is 0.32cent.

Without doing my math, I told him that its as good as m1 because m1 plan is 5gb at $22.42. More worth it. He told me that the Starhub plan is 6gb free. I didn't believe it. If it is really 6gb at $5, they would have used that figure as a marketing message since it is clearly much better than their competitor.

So I took out my excel and do some math.
1kb = 0.32 cent = $0.0032
Total $20 free usage.
20 / 0.0032 = 6250kb
1mb = 1024kb
6250kb = 6.1mb

Wah piang. 6mb and 6gb very big different leh! Decimal point put wrong place huh?
So I told him that he count wrongly. It is 6mb free, not 6gb.
And it took him several second to discover that I was right. 6250kb != 6gb.

Tsk tsk..... Math really fail leh.
OK lah, I promise don't reveal to anyone who you are. Hahaha....

Palm: We haven't given up on you yet

I couldn't agree more with engadget when they say it's time for Palm to make some drastic changes.

Indeed, Palm is going down the drain. I still remember Palm as the leading handheld computing company in the world. But it has lost the market share to Window Mobile device. The specification of the latest Treo680 and Palm TX isn't quite impressive as compared to the Window Mobile counterparts. Although I do feel that PDA and smartphones should be kept simple, there is also a need to be cutting edge. Give us some impressive features that will make us all say "Wow".

The folks at Engadget really nailed the problem. They make a detail analysis of things that need be done for palm to be back on track. While I do not agree with all the points made, I do feel that most of them are quite useful.

I agree with all the points made about the hardware. Seriously, Treo is lagging behind. Most smartphones come with WIFI and are thin and stylish looking.

Software wise, I don't think multitasking is important. Yes, it is good to have, but not a killer feature. The existing UI is good, but perhaps need some updating to keep up to date. Instead of a complete overhaul of the OS, I think updating is good enough. Even the iPhone interface is somewhat similar to PalmOS. This shows that the UI is on the right track. Never, I say again, Never go the same way that Windows Mobile is going. The UI is horrible.

On top of that, Palm also need to include more bundled software. A better web-browser, a better email reader and media player. The Doc-To-Go office applications is good so keep bundling them with new Palm devices.

Other stuff like being being open to customers about the development and more support for developers are good suggestions. I truly believe that it is important to win back developers to write applications for Palm. Give them more support and access to source code to help them write more application for Palm platform.

But one thing I disagree has got to be on Foleo. I do feel that Foleo can be a successful product. But the first version will be problematic. Allow this product line to grow. I feel that there is a market for it.

I think everyone is surprised when Ed Colligan replied to the open letter published in Engadget. That is the first step to making a comeback. I'm glad that Palm is listening. Ed said that he forwarded the entire executive staff. Lets us all hope that the list of suggestions is in good hands. We are looking forward to the day when Palm make a come back. To the good old days when Palm release cutting edge products like Palm Pilot, Palm III, Palm IIIc, Palm V, Palm m505, Treo 600, Palm TT, Palm T3 and Palm TX.

The unattainable acorn

Was reading some of my old blog entries when I found an entry that I wrote after watching Ice Age 2: The Meltdown.

Actually, come to think of it, everyone has an acorn. An acorn that you desire so much and been trying so hard to reach it, yet you are always just a few inches away from it. Aiming for that impossible target and never give up. Just keep trying and trying.

1 1/2 years later, there is still an unattainable acorn in my life. Different acorn, but still seems forever unattainable. Still desiring something that seems ever so hard to reach. And no matter how hard I try, I keep finding myself so near yet so far away from it.

Is this how life works? Giving you one unattainable acorn after another. Wondering when will I ever attain that acorn that I desire the most. Or will I ever attain it at all?

Odex - Are we punching below the belt?

I guess Odex needs no intro if you have been reading the news lately. But if you aren't following the news, perhaps you can checkout HWZ forum or the Wiki page.

A lot of people are following the Odex saga with great interest. I even joke with a few forum friends that we could actually skip watching Heroes season 2 and just read the Odex saga online for our daily dosage of entertainment.

The whole saga teaches us quite a number of useful lesson. The most important lesson I feel is never ever offend the internet community. You will be amazed by the things that they can do. The guys at HWZ managed to dig out tons of information about Odex and its director. They are even able to find his pictures, home address and telephone number. Its amazing what google can do these days.

OK, I'm not supporting piracy here. Neither am I supporting what Odex has done. I believe that Odex could had handled this better by first serving warnings before taking any actions. That big mouth director shouldn't ya ya papaya show off in forum that he is suing people. And suing a 9 year old kid is a no no. Look, he is just a 9 year old kid. Just let him off with a warning.

But even though Odex and its director are wrong, the internet community are no where near being saint. Yes, I support those helpful people who offer great legal advices. I support the everybody's freedom to express their displeasure. I even support the Odex CD recycling program. (Although sad to say, it was cancelled due to lack of leadership)

But I'm strongly against those who post the Odex director's pictures, home address, telephone number and personal details on the forums and blog. Yes, they are wrong, but that doesn't mean we should scoop to their level.

I'm not sure how long will this Saga last. Latest news was that Pacnet need not release the subscriber information to Odex. I bet this is not the end. But whatever it is, I hope everyone stop hitting below the belt. No point scooping to their level. Only dirty our hands. Wack them with a level of maturity

PS: I'm wondering if Pacnet will come out with an ads that say "We protect our subscriber's privacy better than Singnet and Starhub". Hahahaha....

Decay off Advertlets

After slightly more than 1 month of trying out, I've decided to remove the advertlet ads from my blog.

There is nothing wrong with advertlet. In fact, advertlet is fine. I get ads everyday unlike it competitor that chooses blogger to place ads. Which means I get payout everyday for traffic coming into my blog. Am fine with that.

But I'm not those famous bloggers with few thousands visits per day. Am not earning much from the ads placed here. I'm only got SGD$7++ for one month. That is just enough for a cup of hot mocha at Starbucks. Just one cup per month leh.

It is nobody's fault except mine when the traffic is low. Can't blame anyone except myself for that.

I feel that I won't be getting much from these ads. Since that is the case, why not remove it and keep the interface clean.

So Decayonnet is once again ads free. Cheers.

My handphone has been hospitalized

Send my beloved Sony Ericsson K800i to "hospital" for servicing yesterday. The navigation joystick has been giving me trouble lately. Hard to move left and right. Maybe it is because I’ve been playing too much tennis on my k800i. (BTW, I’ve completed all the games on the phone. Haha) And since it is at the service centre, I also requested them to upgrade my firmware. Hope the new firmware will speed up the autofocus speed.

I’m surprised by the short waiting time at Wisma Sony Ericsson service centre. The place was crowded when I arrived and I thought I’m in for a long wait. But I was pretty surprised that when I was told that the estimated waiting time is just 15 minutes. And I was even more surprised when the estimation was wrong. I only waited for roughly 10 minutes. Perhaps it is because there are more than 10 staffs behind the counter. I still remember more than 1 year ago, I waited at least 45 minutes for my turn to see the "doctor". Thumbs up to Sony Ericsson for speeding up their queue at the service centre.

But my poor k800i has to be hospitalized until Saturday evening. I’m now using a spare phone. Nokia 8250!!!

Super retro I tell you. It’s a classic phone, one of the best phone ever by Nokia. Nokia don’t make phone this good anymore nowadays. That is why I’m using Sony Ericsson now. Haha.

Can't really remember which year was the Nokia 8250 released. Year 2001? Its amazing to see how much handphone has evolved over the year. Using an old handphone helps you appreciate the small features that are in your latest handphone that you didn’t notice it exist.

For example, when writing a new SMS on Nokia 8250, the font is default to be all caps. You need to change it to lower caps yourself. Its unlike new handphone where they will auto cap the first letter of the sentence and small cap the remaining letters. Maybe people like to shout using SMS in the past. Haha.

The screen is very small, thus you find yourself scrolling up and down several times when reading a long SMS.

There is no MP3 player. No Radio. No email reader. No web browser. No camera. Nothing. The only interesting thing on this phone is Snake. Cool! Was playing Snake while on my way to work today. Bet a lot of people are looking at me and wondering why am I still using such a old phone.

Kinda miss the features on my K800i. I always listen to MP3 on MRT to drown out the noisy PA system that constantly reminds us to look after our belongings and report to police if we see anything suspicious. I would also use my K800i to check my email and twitter once in a while. And the camera allows me to take pictures of interesting things that I see. Can’t do all these things now with the Nokia 8250.

But I ain’t complaining. Its better than nothing. In fact, I’ll need to use this phone again next month when I go for my ICT. Heard that the army camps are rather strict in enforcing the no handphone camera rules nowadays. Oh well. What to do?

Am I losing my magical touch?

The blogger’s block is still here.

Been finding it hard to blog lately. Really no inspirations to blog. The past few entries were horrible and stupid. You can tell it by looking at the number of pongs from ping.sg. All of them less than 20 pongs. Am I losing my magical touch? Perhaps I am.

And its not that I don’t have any topic or subject to blog about. I actually got quite a number of topics that been up my mind and wanted to blog about. But just couldn’t get the inspiration to get them started.

UniSIM – The forgotten fourth University of Singapore?
Odex – Are we hitting below the belt?
Wikipedia – Is it a reliable source of information?
Palm - Will it be able to make a comeback?

They are interesting topic right? But I just can’t get the inspirations to blog about it.
Argh.... Damn those blogger’s block.

Why not Intelligent Rubbish Bin?

I was pretty amazed by the suggestions that people send to the Straits Times Forum.

Equip rubbish bins with can holders for the destitute who collect cans

CURRENTLY, there are still old uncles and aunties picking up used cans around the neighbourhood.

Sometimes, it can be heartwrenching to see them stretch their hands into rubbish bins just to eke out a living.

Perhaps the authorities should be able to modify certain rubbish bins to hold cans for the ease of those low-income members of the public.

We may not be able to give them money directly but we can certainly make life easier for them.

Lam Tzyy Sin

I was wondering what exactly is this guy thinking.

*DK talk cock mode on*

No no no…. Mr Lam suggestion is not good enough. We should not stop at just modifying existing rubbish bin. I suggest we should do more for the low income group. Perhaps we should get the Polytechnic and University students to design a highly intelligent rubbish bin.

The Highly Intelligent Rubbish Bin (HIRB for short) will have a sensor that scan all the rubbish that is thrown inside. If the rubbish is a soft drink can, it will separate it from normal rubbish. The HIRB will then proceed to wash, sterilize and crash the can and store it in an air tight container while waiting for someone to come collect it. A neon light sign on the HIRB will then light up and a counter will show the number of can inside the air tight container. A solar panel will be placed on the top of the HIRB so that it will be environmentally friendly.

Since we are at it, why not network all the HIRB together? All the HIRB will be connected to the internet using wireless@sg. The HIRB will send data to the main server. Uncle and aunty can login to the web application and see how many can are available for collection at the HIRB near their homes. They can even use the web application to reserve the HIRB so that they will not make a wasted trip. We can even use SMS to alert the uncle and aunty when there are can in the HIRB that they frequent.

End of the day, the uncle and aunty user experience is most important.

*DK talk cock mode off*

OK, I know he wrote this letter out of care and concern for the low income group that are collecting soft drink can as a source of income. But I can't help but be sarcastic when I saw such impractical ideas being published on newspaper. Anyone actually thinking up there?

How many rubbish bin are there in Singapore? Are you going to upgrade all? Or just some? How much does it cost to upgrade those rubbish bin? Won't the money be put into better use if you set up a fund to help the needy?

Can the new rubbish bin solve the problem? No! If you want to solve the problem, then perhaps you should solve it from the roots. Why are the lower income group resorting to collecting soft drink cans from rubbish bin? Are they not earning enough? Is there not enough support for them? Isn't there already existing schemes that are helping those from the lower income groups? Is it not enough for them?

Lifehouse - Everything

Lifehouse - Everything

Find Me Here
Speak To Me
I want to feel you
I need to hear you
You are the light
That's leading me
To the place where I find peace again.

You are the strength, that keeps me walking.
You are the hope, that keeps me trusting.
You are the light to my soul.
You are my purpose...you're everything.

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

You calm the storms, and you give me rest.
You hold me in your hands, you won't let me fall.
You steal my heart, and you take my breath away.
Would you take me in? Take me deeper now?

How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?
And how can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

Cause you're all I want, You're all I need
You're everything,everything
You're all I want your all I need
You're everything, everything.
You're all I want you're all I need.
You're everything, everything
You're all I want you're all I need, you're everything, everything.

And How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?
How can I stand here with you and not be moved by you?
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?

Why I hate the lectures for this module?

Warning: Ranting ahead.

Today is the 2nd lecture for the whole semester. And seriously, I hate the lecture already. In fact, I begin to hate it since the first lecture. Its not the topic, its the lecturer.

Lecturer: We will skip this few slides since they will not come out in exam.
*skip a few slides*
Lecturer: Class, when I say it will not come out in exam, I didn't say which exam. It could be last exam, could be next exam. I didn't say it will not come out for your exam.

Crappy right? If you want to skip the slides, just skip. If you don't want to tell us if it will appear in exams or not, just shut up. Don't waste out time say all these stuff. Its not funny at all.

And he got more crappy things.

Lecturer: So the best solution is A B C. Class, do you know why the best solution is A B C? Why not A C B?
*silence for 5 seconds*
Lecturer: They have done many research on this topic and concluded that A B C is the best solution. Why? I don't know. The text book say A B C is the best solution.

OK, so best solution is A B C. It doesn't matter why. Cause even the lecturer doesn't know why. So why ask a question that you don't know? Perhaps its a joke? But nobody is laughing.

It is not that we have a lot of time. We are already behind schedule. He is going too slow because he crap too much. I won't mind if he crack funny jokes. But they aren't funny at all. It just piss you off. And we are attending night class. Everyone came to school from work. Everyone is tired already. If you got lots of time on hand, just finish the lesson and let us go home early to rest.

And the final straw today.....

He showed us some extra stuff that wasn't in the lecture notes but was closely related to the assignment. He said that if we are fast enough, we can copy. But he will move very fast, so no point copying.

So I took out my handphone and tried to take a picture of the slides on the projector. He saw me doing it and stopped me, ask me to show him the pictures that I've taken. I told him that I haven't managed to take any pictures yet. He doesn't believe. So I went down the lecture hall, wanting to show him the pictures in my handphone folder. He told me to put my handphone on his desk first and see it after the lecture.

That's it lor. Damn pissed off. We are adults already. Not secondary school kids. If you say cannot take picture, I won't take any. And when I said I haven't taken any picture, I really mean it. Why should I lie to you? Shouldn't there be mutual trust? I even offered to show him all the pictures in my handphone to proof that I haven't taken any pictures yet. Why is there a need to ask me to put my handphone on the desk for the rest of the lecture?

So my handphone was on his table until the end of the lecture when I went to collect it back. He told me to show him the pictures that I've taken. And I did so. There is nothing to hide. Just pissed off by the way he handled the whole situation.

Firstly, he didn't say no using camera to take picture before he show the slides.
Secondly, he doesn't have the rights to retain my handphone.
Thirdly, he doesn't have the rights to see the content in my phone.

I almost blew my top on him and wanted to scold him from my seat already. But I held back. I was being respectful to him by allowing him to retain my camera until the end of the lecture and allowing him to see the content of my handphone.

And it was utterly stupid. He told us not to copy, just listen. And he was going thru those slides very fast. So fast that isn't enough time for you to take short notes or even try to digest the information. And these are important information for the assignment. What the point of showing us the slides when most people don't have enough time to catch the information? You might as well don't show those slides. We are not tested on super memory or speed memory or speed writing. We are tested on the facts. And we aren't getting much from the slides he flashed to us.

Seriously, I don't know what's the matter with this fellow. What is wrong with taking pictures of slides which you are showing us? Resistant to technology? Isn't it very stupid and inflexible? Why can't we make full use of the technology available to give us a leverage? We are doing a degree in IT right?

Oh.... this actually reminds me of another inflexible incident that occur in school last year. At least I was allowed to use camera back then. Still.... what are they thinking of? Why so inflexible?

Why does a dog wag its tail?

Watched Wag The Dog with my friend today. Quite an interesting and funny show I must say. The movie is about the US president was caught in a sex scandal 2 weeks before the election. In order to resolve this PR disaster, they decide to create a fake war with another country so as to distract everyone's attention away from the sex scandal.

Its funny to watch see all the extreme measures they take just to divert the attention. And the way the media and the public actually falls for the trick.

I kinda like the quote that they put in the beginning of the show.

Why does a dog wag its tail?
Because a dog is smarter than its tail.

If the tail was smarter, the tail would wag the dog.

Great show. Should catch it if you can. Its a rather old show. Should be able to get it on DVD.
And perhaps can use those tricks in real life situtations. Create something fake to distract the attention away from something bad. Hmmm.....

Blogger's block

Can't seems to put my thoughts into this blog lately. Its those writer's block again. (Or should I call it blogger's block since I'm not exactly a writer)

Not exactly sure if there is anyone who miss seeing my blog updates daily. But if there is any, then you guys just have to bear with it for a while. It hurts me as much as it hurts you. Trust me, the feeling isn't very good.

Not sure when will I get my inspiration to blog again. Maybe a few hours? Few days? or even weeks.

Well.... See you when they return.

You are a system analyst. Your job is to analyse

Warning: This is a very long ranting entry. Doubt you want to read it.

I’m seriously sick of the way this colleague do her stuff. Yes, my company is a retirement village and I can see very clearly that you are here for retirement. But please, if you want to retire, don’t come and sabo me. Just stay at your own corner and retire quietly.

This woman damn powerful. (PS: She is not PITA, although I think I've mentioned her before in my blog) Whenever there is a system error, she just simply take instructions from her teamlead and colleagues to patch the data. She never investigate what went wrong, how it went wrong and how to prevent it from going wrong again. She never check if the things that she is patching is correct. She just patch whatever she is told to do. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you are a junior officer, I wouldn’t say anything. But she are a senior officer, degree holder, perm staff and has been in the company for at least 6 years. Yet this is the kind of work she produces. Hello, her pay is almost double my pay lor.

Take yesterday for example, she told me to patch an error in our data caused by her team’s system. I don’t think she is the person who investigated and come out with the solutioning. But anyway, I asked her what causes the error and she say she don’t know. When ask her to investigate and do something to prevent it from happening again, she merely say that this is a rare case and will not happen again. Hello. In computer, if it happens once, chances are it will happen again. Yet she just don’t want to investigate what went wrong. Anyway, her whole team are like that. Which explains why their team’s system is full of bugs and keep generating error data into our system. Well, good thing is that it is making us very employable. Bad thing is that have to fix all the stupid error that they created.

She always patch thing blindly. When someone tell her that certain records is wrong, she just merely patch it without confirming if they are right or wrong. I already lost count of the number of times I told her that the things she is patching is wrong. Either she don’t know or don’t care. Her teamlead ask her patch what, she just patch blindly lor. Never even bother to double check if it is correct or wrong. Hello, you are a system analyst, for goodness sake, ANALYSE before you do anything. If we need someone to just do things blindly, we can simply employ an operator at a much lower salary. I think her pay can employ at least 3 operators. Maybe even 4.

Then today was the best. There is some discrepancy in some data. As the data were passed down from her team system (again), I asked her to check which data is correct so that I can remove the error data. At first, she told me it was data A that was wrong and need to be removed. While at her desk, I got to see their database and saw something funny with their data. As I’m not familiar with their system, I check with her to see if her data is correct. She claims that it is suppose to be like that and told me to go ahead and remove data A.

Finding it a bit fishy, I ask another colleague who is more experienced in their system and he confirm with me that there is indeed error in their data. So we went to find her again and tell her our findings. Imagine 2 people from another team looking into your team’s system and telling you that your understanding of your own team’s system is wrong. It was funny yet frustrating. After clarifying everything, the conclusion is that data A is correct and should not be removed. It should be data B that is wrong (which she previously claims that data B is correct).

Totally opposite of what she told me previously. Should I have not double confirmed with another colleague, I would have deleted the data wrongly and cause an error in the system.

This is not the first time her information is wrong.

You tell me, like that how to work with her in the future? Can her information ever be trusted?
This is the kind of co-workers I have. How to have a pleasant day at work with such people around?

Corrinne May - Something About You

Corrinne May - Something About You

Don't know what you do to me but
Everytime I'm with you it's a natural high
It's like re-discovering Eden
with chocolate -coated rainbows and cotton candy skies
And everytime you look my way
I wish I had the guts to say

There's something in your eyes
Something in your smile
Something in the way you move me
You make me want to sing
Make me want to dance
Make me want to cry
I'm falling in love with you.

I think I'll hire Cupid
He'll make you see I'm more than your friend
You'll be tossing and turning
Counting the hours till you see me again
And when we meet you'll
Kiss my hand and say the words I've longed to hear

There's something in your eyes
Something in your smile
Something in the way you move me
You make me want to sing
Make me want to dance
Make me want to cry
I'm falling in love with you
You make me want to sing,
make me want to dance,
make me want to cry
I'm falling in love with you.

It has been 14 years

I still remember it was Friday the 13th back in 1993. It has been that long already. Yet I can still remember what happened that day.

So many things has happen since you passed away. I finished Secondary school and polytechnic. Gone thru NS, found my first job and am now in my 4th working year.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if you are still around. Would I be as independent as I am now? Or would I still be a mummy's boy. I really wonder.

It has been 14 years since I last talked to you mum. There is no more sad feelings inside. I guess I've gotten over it. Still remember my teacher and classmates saying my eyes were swollen from crying at your funeral. I do miss you from time to time. But grown to accept that we can only meet again when I return my NRIC. Not sure when will that be. Don't think it will be so soon ba.

But I know you will always be watching us from above. We will take care of ourselves too. Don't worry.

Oh.... btw mum. If you are able to, please visit dad in his dream and ask him to stop smoking. Terrible lah, claim that he quitted already but still smoking everytime we are not watching. Tsk tsk....

When will we stop breaking senseless world record?

We broke quite a number of world records during this year’s National Day celebration.

Largest floating platform
Largest Human National Flag Made From Umbrella.
Largest National Flag Made From Paper Stars.
Largest National Flag Made From Balloons.

Let me know if I missed out any.

OK, I’m pretty fine with the largest floating platform since we need a place for NDP. But will you all STOP TELLING EVERYONE that we have the largest floating platform? My last count was 103839374 times. Please. The only reason why we had the largest floating platform is not because it is hard to achieve but because nobody see the point of doing one.

And all the largest national flag record are stupid.

9000 people forming Singapore flag at the Padang using 9000 umbrella!! Assuming each umbrella cost $5, it would have been $45,000. That amount of money could have been put into better use by giving to 173 old folks and disable citizen. ($45,000 / $260 = 173)

Then there is this 7000 paper stars to form a National Flag. The reason why nobody broke that record is because nobody thought of it before. If you want to break another world record, try forming a National Flag with things like pen or rocks or CD casing. I'm sure nobody did those before too. And since you are the first one to do it, you don't need to use 7000. 70 is good enough for the world record.

And 7000 Balloons to form the largest national flag was even worst. Didn’t you guys watch the 7 July 2007 Live Earth concert? It was only 1 month ago.

When will we stop breaking senseless world records just for the sake of breaking one?

Can't we break some meaningful records?
Like most people to offer seat to a pregnant woman on MRT?
Or shortest waiting time for taxi along orchard road on a Friday night?
How about least number of guest who turn up late for wedding dinner?

When will we stop breaking senseless world record?

DK intends to break the world record of pointing middle finger for the longest period.

Mystery of the LEGO man

This is really funny. Where the heck did this LEGO man come from?
Dump into the sea after an event? Or is it some marketing gimick by LEGO?

A giant "LEGO" man has been washed up on a Dutch beach but no one knows where it came from or what it is.

Workers at a drinks stall fished the giant, smiling "LEGO" man from the sea in the Dutch resort of Zandvoort.

They dragged the 2.5-metre (8-foot) tall model with a yellow head and blue torso from the sea and placed it in the sand, where crowds quickly gathered around it.

Source: Reuters

Invasion of the LEGO man? Haha...

While watching NDP 07

Below are some conversation between my dad and I while watching the NDP.

Me: How come PAP got marching contingent but worker party don't have huh?
Dad: Hammer logo not nice.

Me: Wah, the PAP contingent is lead by one of the MP.
Dad: Ya, confirm he said something wrong during paliment. So they punish him by making him stand in the parade while the rest sit at the VIP seats and enjoy the show.

--------------

Dad: What is "NOP"?
Me: Huh? What "NOP"? "NOPE" huh?
Dad: See TV lah.
The marching contingent just formed the word "NDP 07" but the "D" look like "O"

--------------

Me: We should deduct the president's pay this year.
Dad: Why?
Me: He didn't sing the National Anthem. Didn't walk while reviewing the guard of honour. He didn't even talk to anyone one of them.

This is Singapore, the place I call home.

42 years ago, someone appeared on national television and cried. Suddenly, Singapore become independent. All by ourselves, away from British rule and Malaysia merger. And we have gone so far since that day.

People from my generation will never know the kind of hardship our parents been thru during the independence days. But we are faced with a different set of problems. To push ourselves to the world stage.

We are far from utopia. We may not have freedom of speech or a free media. We may not have equal opportunities for everyone. We may be more pro foreign talent rather than pro locals. We may have strict laws and inflexible government agencies. But without these things, we might not get to where we are now. Perhaps there is some give and take. Or perhaps it is waiting for us to improve further.

This is a place I call home. Where I lived for the past 27 years. Where I grew up and get my educations. Where I built my home and make friends. Singapore means a lot to me. It has given me a lot.

I don't know about everyone else. But I do feel a sense of pride whenever I see the National Flag. This is Singapore, the place I call home.

Happy Birthday Singapore.

Must buy accessories for iPhone

Every iPhone owner should get this.

Shuffle Art for iPhone. In case you don't know yet, Shuffle Arts is a product of Singapore.

Cool huh? It's not out in the market yet. I met Roger (designer of Shuffle Art) and Paddy at MAAD last Saturday and Paddy showed it to me. Heard that there will be four different design. Should be ready for sale in the states soon. Can't wait to see the other 3 design.

Paddy's company is also getting ready their PhoneBAK software for iPhone. Another must buy for your iPhone. (PhoneBAK is also a Singapore product) With such an expensive iPhone, it is best to protect it with some security software. And PhoneBAK can surely increase your chance of getting your phone back when it is lost or stolen. (Out of topic: I'll be doing a beta testing on PhoneBAK for Sony Ericsson phones soon)

These guys are amazing. The iPhone hasn't arrived Singapore yet but they already have products for it. I bet they have already laid the red carpet and ready for its arrival iPhone 2008.

Cheers to these Singapore Entrepreneur.

Making money by being free

OK, this is not the usual type of article you would normally see on Decayonnet. I’m just trying out different type of writing to see the responds.

I’ve been surfing around recently and looking at some startups and their business model. Notice a lot of companies adopting a free for consumer business model. (OK, I’m not sure if there is a term for this kind of business model. Do let me know if there is a term for it.) I’m not sure when did this type of business model begin. I guess it has been around for very long time and the internet is an excellent breeding ground for this kind of business model.

Being free for consumer means that you don’t charge consumer for using your service. A great example is google. Google provides lots of service like search engine, word and excel processor, maps etc etc etc. All of them offered free to consumer. This is what that makes google so successful. They provide a wonderful product for free and generate revenues via other means like advertising. Imagine if google started out with a search engine which charges 10 cent for every item you search in the internet. Do you think anyone would still want to use it?

People are suckers for freebies. I admit I’m one of them. I lost count of the number of times that I sign up for something that is free. Being free does help to increase your exposure since customers lose almost nothing by using your product. But while being free does attracts lots of users, the quality of the products is the one that retain customers at the end of the day. No point providing a lousy product for free. If it is lousy, nobody would use it at the end of the day.

But how do you bring food to the dinner table if you are giving out your product and services for free?

Being free has its advantages. The biggest advantage is that you will attract a large group of users. These people are your assets and you should try to leverage on them. They are your best advertisers as they will introduce the service to their friends. They are part of your product as there are companies that might want to send them some advertisement. Forget about earning money first. Concentrate on your product and get as much users as possible. Once you got a large crowd, you have several options to monetize your product.

There are several ways to make money by being free.

Advertising
The most commonly used method is thru advertising. By being free, your product and service attracts lots of customers. And there are surely some companies out there that want to tap into your customer base and advertise their products.

Working with other commercial entities
Another method is to allow commercial entities to use your service or even incorporate your service into their product and charge them a fee for using it.

Provide premium service at a fee
This is like a shareware business model. You provide a free basic feature of your service and charge a fee for premium service. The free basic feature will act as an advertisement by itself to attract the crowd.

Acquire by another company
This is perhaps everyone’s dream. By being free, you get a large following which will attract potential investors. And maybe one of the investor decide to acquire your product.

But note that not every service or product is suitable to be given out free. You need to evaluate your product and decide for yourself if this model suits you.

DK is blogging for free on Decayonnet. (Except for that recently added advertisement on the top by Advertlet)

PS: Oh BTW.... I still got 5 FREE pownce invites to give away. Anyone? :D

Remembering Hiroshima

*This is a repost of an article I wrote 2 years ago*

60 62 years ago, an Atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, killing more than 140,000 people, and causing many thousand more people to die of radiation-related illness.

While the A-bomb triggered the surrender of the Japanese and the end of World War II, I've always wondered if it is actually necessary.

Germany and Italy had already surrendered. Japan is alone, fighting the Allied forces in many front lines. Japan's Naval and Air forces are losing the fight to the Allied forces that had surrounded Japan. Bombing on Japan's land was conducted every night. Russia also declared war against Japan. Japan is losing....

So is the A-Bomb really required? I don't think so. It is just a matter of time before Japan surrender. The A-Bomb will speed up the surrender. Maybe saving the lifes of many American troops. But it killed more civilians than soldiers.

140,000 civilians, unarmed and untrained, were killed. I thought they should be targeting military targets like war factory and army camps. Yes, the Japanese soldier were cruel. I remember the Rape of Nan Jing. I remember how the people suffered under the Japanese rule. But we are no different from them. We dropped a A-Bomb on a defenseless city.

140,000 lives loss in exchanged for a faster peace. Is it worth it?

Remember Hiroshima. Remember the day 140,000 civilians lifes were lost to exchange for peace....

Too Long For Twitter, Too Short For Blog #7

Argh... I need to do this more frequently.

Decayonnet at sgblogs rank 15
I don't really know how sgblogs.com does its ranking. But I'm surprised that I managed to get into rank 15.

But the ranking is quite competitive and changes almost every day. Doubt I'll remain there for long. Oh well, at least its nice to know that I managed to hit rank 15 once. :)

Humping Dog
Not sure if I should classify this as NSFW. Anyway, its funny, but really serve no purpose. And very noisy too.

Interviewed by How to blog for money
Paddy email me recently to do an interview for his blog. Here are the things that I said.

When I read back what I wrote, I found that I was rather boring when answering the question. Which is not my usual self. Wondering why.... Must be tired cause of the assignment.

Someone stole my Dilbert Calendar
Someone in my office stole my Dilbert Calendar. Not the whole Calendar, but just one piece. But strangely, that day's comic wasn't exceptionally funny. Why would anyone want to steal it? Sad.... I always keep the paper after tearing them. Now I'm short of one day in my collection.

Building the Merlion in Second Life
Got a group message from Lion City in Second Life. They are giving Lion City a facelift and need help with building a Merlion. If you think you are able to do it, feel free to contact MInky MOusehold.

I went into Lion City yesterday. It was empty. They even removed the Suntec City! :(
I love the Suntec City. Wish that they will put it back soon.

6 5 more pownce invites to give away
The pownce invites are still up for grabs. Hurry before it runs out.

OK, I think it won't run out. Maybe pownce has given out too many invites and those who wanted pownce would have already gotten it already. Anyway, if you want, feel free to drop me a comment.

Why I support caning?

I'm always a supporter of using caning as a punishment for serious crime like rapes. (Note, I meant for serious crimes) I feel that such punishments act as a way to deter a lot of people from committing the crime. And if someone wants to break those law, he has to pay for it. The laws has already been written. If you choose to break the law, you have to accept the punishment.

I feel that it is these strict laws that made Singapore a safe place. It's safe for a gal to return home at 3am alone. This is what I like about Singapore. And I'm willing to give up some human rights in exchange for this peace. Besides, the evil side of me feels that criminals who commit serious crimes shouldn't be qualified for human rights. That is also why I support the death penalty for serious crimes like murder and drug trafficking.

And when I saw this leaked video of how caning was conducted in Malaysia, I'm sure that what I supported was right. Look how a rotan can reduce a man to a cry baby. How he shiver while waiting for the next cane. And the way the skin open up after the cane. I'm the scar will remind him of his misdeeds. I hope this video would be able to serve as an deterrent to everyone. And remind everyone the tough penalty behind those serious crimes and make them think more than twice before doing it.

This video might be considered NSFW. A bit gross too.

OK, perhaps they should cover up the person's face so that those watching the video will not know who is he. But am glad that this video managed to leak out. I'm sure more people will think twice before committing a crime.

Note: the canning in Singapore is carried out in a room and not in the open. But I think they are using the same kind of caning method. So think twice before you commit a crime.

PS: I know the human rights folks will slam me for writing this. But I hope you guys give me the human rights to voice my personal views. I know this topic is very subjective. But I respect your views and I hope you respect mine too. End of the day, lets agree to disagree if you don't agree with my saying. Don't flame me for this. Thanks.

DK gone MAAD

OK, there wasn't a typo in the title. I really went MAAD. Market of Artists And Designers.

MAAD is a monthly event held on the first weekend of every month at the Red Dot Design Museum. It's the old Traffic Police HQ for those who always ganna summon last time. :P

Bump into Claudia on my way to Red Dot Design Museum. She has a booth at MAAD too.

The whole place was like those school funfair with lots of booth selling local designed products. Saw a booth that sells hand made journal. Interesting. But you will never see me attempt to write. My handwriting sucks.

Met Roger at MAAD. Roger is a great designer and creator of Shuffle Art. Love his designs. His design make me feel like buying a iPod just to paste the Shuffle Art and be seen walking around with it. He has a booth at MAAD and gave me a sneak preview of his latest product. Hee hee. I'll talk more about it in another post.

There are other interesting stuff like a mini table made from clear plastic for using your laptop while on bed. Cool stuff. Then there is also this decorative star shaped lamp. Too bad it look out of place in my undesigned house.

Paddy and Izel was there too. I machim like go there to meet friends leh. Haha. They are there because Izel has a booth at MAAD for her Chain of Beads. Her hand made jewelleries (especially the Pendants) are beautiful. You can tell that she put in alot of effort and passion in making them.

Her booth kinda messy hor? But it is filled with beautiful jewelleries which is a babe magnet and traffic stopper. Perhaps that is why Paddy is always at the booth (to bio the gals looking at his wife's product). Haha... I'm kidding.

Izel told me that her all her designs are unique and she don't repeat the designs. Meaning you won't bump into anyone wearing the same design along the road. Which I think is important. And if you want to be your own jewellery designer, Izel also provides beading classes. Isn't that great? Check out her website for more details.

The pendants sure looks beautiful. Makes me feel like buying. But I buy liao also cannot wear myself. Then also got nobody to give it to. Haiz.

Me and Botak Jones

I went to Botak Jones for the first time yesterday. OK OK, I know I'm slow. Botak Jones serve great American food and yesterday was the first time I've been there. What a mountain tortoise!!

I went to the branch at Toa Payoh. Heard that it was just open recently in March. Its a great place, well hidden between some HDB flats and flatted factory.

Wanted to order the "You crazy what?!" burger but my stomach was full of popcorns from the movie. So I ordered the Double Botak burger which is the same as the "You crazy what?!" burger except it only has 2 beef patty instead of three.

The burger was great. The patty is very tender. The fries are nicely done. I forgot to ask them to add cheese to the patty. Wasted. It would have been even better with cheese. Will remember to add cheese next time.

The great thing about the Toa Payoh branch is that there is this bar counter call Brewski Jones which serves beers. And most importantly, they got Hoegaarden.

Hoegaarden and double botak burger. With Michael Buble's music at the background and a great company.

Every night should be like this.

What is estee doing inside my hotmail???

Hmmm.... Isn't that Estee? What is she doing inside my hotmail account?

優客李林 - JUST FOR YOU

It's interesting that I have 2 friends who birthday is yesterday and one friend who birthday is today.

This song is for all of you. Just for you.
Happy Birthday.

優客李林 - JUST FOR YOU

每年深秋 我總要說HAPPY BIRTHDAY祝福妳
而這首歌 JUST FOR YOU

JUST FOR YOU
JUST FOR YOU
JUST FOR YOU
FOR YOU

Enjoying lunching alone

When my lunch kakis T told me that he is resigning, the first thing that comes to my mind was, who should I join for lunch in the future.

I still remember when I just join the company, we had a very large lunch group of about 10 people. Finding seat is always a problem and we usually split into 2 table. As time goes by, the group become smaller and smaller as people resign or join other lunch group. Until a point where it’s just T and me left in the group. OK, some gals would join us occasionally. Other than that, it’s usually just the 2 of us.

So when T left the company, I wonder who should I join for lunch. The company is rather big and there are lots of different lunch group. I could have just joined anyone. But I later decided to lunch alone. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not those anti-social people. I decided to lunch alone partly because I’m lazy to find new kakis. And also because I keep feeling that I’ll leave the company very soon. But I’m wrong. The company that I went interview recently didn’t get back to me. Seems like I was rejected. So perhaps I’ll be staying in the company until the end of my contract which is in March 2008.

Actually, lunching alone has its own advantages. You don’t need to discuss where to eat. You don’t need to wait for others to get ready. You don’t need to worry about not finding a table big enough for everyone. You don’t need to wait for others to buy their food. You don’t need to wait for others to finish their food.

And best of all, you can finish your lunch within 15 minutes and come back in office to surf net. Haha.

Seriously... I’m really beginning to enjoy lunching alone nwo. So much so that I turn down a group of colleagues who ask me to join them for lunch today. OK, partly also because I don’t really like the place that they are going for lunch. Nothing much to eat there.

1-18-08 - The unknown movie by JJ Abrams

Check out this movie trailer which got the whole internet talking recently.

Cool huh? But the problem is, we don't know what's the movie name. We don't know what is it about. We don't know anything. All we know is this "thing" ripped apart Statue of Liberty's head and throw it into NYC.

Well, what do you expect from JJ Abrams?
The internet is full of speculations. Looks like the marketing dept did a good job.

From the wikipedia page, we know that the code name for this movie is cloverfield. Although this will most likely not be the real movie name.

Here are some interesting findings about the movie that that is circulating on the internet.

The official website is at www.1-18-08.com. It's pretty empty except for a few photos. If you were to wiggle the picture quickly, it will flip to reveal the back of the photos. Some of them have words written behind.

One of them mentioned the name Jamie Lascano. Jamie can be found on myspace. From there, you can link to others in the movie.

Another site that is rumoured to be related to this flim is www.slusho.jp. Can't really make any sense out of it yet. Hope others can find something about it.

There are still lots of hints flying around the internet. Watch the youtube video by nightowl3090. He did some really good analysis.

So what exactly could it be? Some say its a remake Voltron or Godzilla. I personally don't think so. Could it be related to LOST? I don't really think so too. I think it should be a new monster created by JJ Abrams.

Whatever it is, the marketing is sure doing a good job. Can't wait for 18 Jan 2008. Argh.

Fighting with that P Devil

I'm a Procrastinator. (I guess its a well known fact)

Whenever there is an assignment or task, I always push to the very last minute. Perhaps I work better when the deadline is near. So far, I haven't gotten myself into any trouble yet. But seriously, I think it's just a matter of time before my procrastinate hobby create trouble for me. Keep telling myself that I need to do something about this P Devil. But the procrastinator in me always push that to the last minute. This is bad... real bad. I need to fight with that P Devil before it kills me.

Argh.... I hate assignments... OK, back to fighting with that P Devil.

Die P Devil.... Die!!!
