Focus Group

Went for GV's focus group on their website today. Apparently, I was selected for their focus group because I've been making quite a number of online booking. That's why they want my feedback. haha...

It is my first time attending a focus group. There are around 10 people present. The staffs prepared a set of questions and ask for our opinions. They guide us thru the questions and encourage us to discuss the topic. It was an eye opener to see how a focus group is being organised.

I will not go into the details as I'm suppose to keep it confidential.

Anyway, a focus group is a good way to gather feedback from customers. Quite a number of interesting points were being raised during the session. I think they are very useful to their development team. Its good that the company values feedback from customer. In fact, all companies should organise a focus group once in a while to gather feedback.

Oh... and I got 2 free movie tickets. :D
(But actually, its considered quite little. Heard that other company usually give up to $50 worth of products or even cash)

Foo Fighters - Everlong

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

Hello - iPhone advertisement

Can you identify all the movies?

Hey.... got back to the future! One of my fave show. :D

Act busy?

Was freaking pissed off when a colleague said that I was acting busy.

I am really busy lately with the error checking and other request on hand. It not that I'm faking or anything.

And I do not need to act busy. Even if I got nothing on hand, I also won't act busy. Why do I need to act busy? I'm not some faker. Find it very insulting when that person use that phrase "Act busy" repeatly. Its not funny at all.

And no, I not working hard just because I got a bigger increment. So stop saying that I'm chionging because of that increment. I have no choice. The job just come to me. Its not that I wanted them.

So will you stop nagging?

Snowball 2007

I can play this game for hours. Just roll the snowball down the slope.

My highscore now is 3927lbs. :D

I don't know

Me is pissed again today at work.

I was 'dragged' into the error checking meeting again. I was already filled with things to do already, but no choice. Got to go. The checking went on till after office hours. As I have lesson today, I couldn't stay too late. So I told them that I need to leave at around 6:30pm. (My knock off timing is actually 6pm)

The director ask me to get another guy from my team to come in take over my role. So I went over, told him that director wants him to go help check for errors. But he don't want to go, saying he has no background information about the issue. And he don't know this and that things that we are doing.

Feeling pissed, I just told him "Actually, I also don't know the things that you mentioned" and I left for my lesson.

------------
I hate it when people give the excuse "I don't know". If you were to tell me you are busy or need to leave office early, I won't be pissed off. If you tell me you need someone to teach you, I'm more than happy to explain to you. Nobody is born into this work knowing how to do everything. You need learn. And the best way to learn is to do it. Just like you can never learn how to swim without going into the water.

And seriously, the things that he mentioned are things that I also don't know before hand. But I went around asking people how some of the things work. It is common. The system is too big and complicated for anyone to know everything in details.

If "I don't know" is a valid reason not to do things, then I think I can sit at my desk and shake leg everyday.

-------------

And just in case you are guessing who is the fellow, well...... no prize for guessing the right person.
Its him again...... the same person who didn't restart the job, didn't setup the laptop, anyhow promise deadline, didn't inform us till last minute and arrow me to cover his meeting.

The chimpanzees are closing the gap

Saw an interesting article at new scientist about chimpanzees hunting with spears.

WOW.... So we humans aren't the only species on earth that uses tools.

Chimps were observed thrusting their spears into hollow trunks and branches with enough force to injure anything inside the holes, Pruetz’s research team says. The chimps used a “power grip” and made multiple downward stabs – much the same way as a human might wield a dagger.

Am I the only person feeling worried after reading this article? If they are intelligent enough to use a tool to hunt, they might evolve to what we are. Who knows, instead of China and India, we might be outsourcing our jobs to the chimpanzees in the future.

Imagine a chimpanzee doing Java programming. Same quality, but even cheaper. *Horror*

Did you know.....

Chinese have more honors kids than American have kids.

Now... that is shocking....

How many fence can we build?

The Singapore blogsphere was full of activities yesterday and today because of the leaked video clip of the Yishun and Admiralty MRT suicide. I'm not going to put the video up on my blog. If you want to see the video for yourself, you can go check out tomorrow.sg.

When the video leaked out, I was expecting one group of people jumping at SMRT and blaming them for not building full height door on those station that is above the ground level. Yes, we can indeed prevent people from committing suicide at MRT station if we fence up all the station. Full stop.

BUT we can't prevent the person from commit suicide. There are millions of ways to commit suicide. Just because people jump into MRT track, you campaign for full height door at all MRT station. Then if people jump down HDB building, are you going to campaign for fence at all HDB flats? Then if someone drink dettol to commit suicide, are you going to call for the ban of dettol?

I feel sorry for the person who is pushed to the edge in life and commit suicide. But building doors at all MRT station is not going to help them. There are other means for them to die. We can prevent them from committing suicide at MRT station. But how many fence can we build? How are we going to prevent the remaining 999,999 methods? We can't.

The problem here is not that MRT station doesn't have door to prevent people to jump down the track. The root of the problem here is that people who are desperate did not get the help they needed. These people are left behind by the society. Singapore is developing too fast. They can't catch up. Govt say they will leave no one behind. But it seems that there are some people left behind. And there are more. Just that they haven't reach the stage of desperation to commit suicide. We need to do something to help them. Go talk to your MP, ask them to stop wasting their time doing hip hop at Chingay and go do a walkaround at those one room and two room HDB estate. Don't wait till elections then come wayang.

No point asking for MRT to build door for all stations. Its a waste of money and resource. Instead, use those money to help the needy. Solve the problem at the root.

Blogger withdrawal syndrome

I think I'm having blogger withdrawal syndrome.

For no reason, I couldn't create new post on decayonnet for the whole day. When I click on the Create link, the page just won't load. Keep trying a few times, still can't. The strange thing is, I have no problem editing existing post or even posting on other blogs that I have on blogger.

I almost died when I couldn't blog for the whole day.

At first I thought I got a spyware or virus. So I did a virus scan and also scan for spyware. None. Then I thought my IE is having problem. So I installed firefox to test out. Still cannot.

Finally, I decide to write to blogger helpdesk.

And surprisingly, few minutes after sending the error report, I tried creating new post again and succeed. HURRAY!!!!

Hmmmm.... is it a coincident that my blog is fixed a few minutes after sending out the error report? Or did the helpdesk respond to my error report at record timing?

Ok, blogger withdrawal syndrome is over. I can go to bed now. Gd nite. :D

Lo Hei

Had yusheng at my sis house today.

As usual, instead of raw fish, we used abalone. :D

HUAT AH!!!!!! HUAT AH!!!!!! HUAT AH!!!!!!

You again

I is pissed.

One of my colleague cancelled a weekly job that is suppose to run during the weekend as it has some impact to what he is doing. This is perfectly fine. Except he didn't inform us till last minute.

He knew he need to cancel the job since few weeks ago. He actually emailed all the sub teamlead and ask if there is any impact to them. Don't understand why the heck he didn't email the rest of the team. There are only 12 person in the team. Is it really that hard to inform everyone last week?

He informed the rest of the team on thursday at around 11:30am. As he will be canceling that job, we need to get our things done before friday 9am. Less than 24 hours warning. Might as well don't inform us.

Sometimes I wonder what the heck he is thinking.
---------------------

He need to attend a meeting regarding the error. But he has another meeting at the same timing. So he ask me to go on his behalf. Since I knew about the case, I agreed to cover him for the meeting.

So he went for his meeting. I was informed that the meeting on the error will be delayed. So I waited at my desk and do my stuff. By the time he finish his meeting, the error meeting haven't started yet.

So I thought he would attend the error meeting. But no.... he asked me to go instead, claiming that he got things to do. Fine, I'll go....

Didn't expect the meeting to last from 3.30pm to 7pm. And worst still, the meeting is to be continued next morning. By the time I reach my desk, everyone in my team has already left. Including him.

And I OT until 10pm trying to clear the backlogs. Told him that there is a part 2 tomorrow, and ask if he is going. He told me to go because he got things to do.

HELLO, I ALSO GOT THINGS TO DO LOR. I OT TILL 10PM, WHILE YOU LEFT THE BLOODY OFFICE BEFORE 7PM. WHO GOT MORE THINGS TO DO?

-----------------------

And in case you are wondering, this person is also the same person who didn't restart the job, didn't setup the laptop and anyhow promise deadline.

I think I can start a label specially for entries about how you piss me off.

Pleasant surprise

Saw a few staff handing out kam and wishing us happy new year when I reach my office's lift lobby today morning. Wow. What a pleasant surprise.

For the past few years, they only give out kam at HQ. We IT people never had a chance to recieve any of the kam as we are not located at the HQ. Our company's HQ is in the CBD. Land expensive.... Can only afford to have the big shots and marketing staff there. So the IT staff are being located at some office in some industrial park. As I mentioned before, IT dept are usually viewed as a cost centre. So we seldom get any special benifits.

Well... this time is different. They specially have some staff from HQ to come to our ulu office building to give out kam. I know, kam don't cost much, but its the thoughts that count. I'm deeply touched by the small little suprise.....

But hor... I got a lot of kam already. Now you give me 2 more kam. How am I going to settle them?

Ai kam mai? Anyone?

Dream

Had a weird dream few days ago.....

--------------

I was holding a glass of champagne while driving. I had a few sip. I was driving along the usual route home. Suddenly I came to a road block and begin to panic. Why the heck am I drinking champagne while driving?

When I reach the road block, the police saw the glass of champagne and told me to pull over. I got out and told the police officer that I only had a few sip of champagne and I'm not drunk. He didn't believe me and insist that I'm drink driving. Seeing that there is no point arguing with him, I told him that I would take the breathalyzer test.

The police said they didn't bring the breathalyzer along. -_-'''

---------------

Its been a long time since I had such weird dreams. But strangely, somehow I feel that the dream is telling me a message. I don't drink and drive. I'm not a champagne person. In fact, I don't really like champagne. I prefer red wine more. I don't know why I had such a weird dream.

So I sat down and tried to analyse what my dream was trying to say.

Sipping Champagne - Celebrating
Road block - Encounter trouble
Police don't believe me - Being misunderstood
No breathalyzer - No way to prove my innocent

I'm just making a wild guess. Don't know if I'm right or wrong. If anyone knows how to read the message from dreams, please let me know.

Catching that popup

Did anyone see a popup advertisment when loading my blog?

I was wondering where did the popup come from. I didn't add anything robustic lately. I suspect the popup came from this post. There is something fishy about the img file.

img src="http://www.slashmysearch.com/earn/image.php?bid=4" width="460" height="120" border="0"

Why is there a .php? hmmm....

Anyway, I've changed the image. Instead of linking directly to the website for the image, I've downloaded the picture and uploaded it to blogger. Do let me know if you still see a popup.

Die popup.... die..... hahahaha....

**Updates**
slashmysearch is innocent. The popup still exists after removing the image.
Strange.... so where did the popup come from??

sgblogs

Just discovered that I was being indexed by sgblogs.

Well, I didn't register or sign up for it. The website says that their engine uses a fully automated algorithm to seek out the cluster of Singapore blogs within the Internet. Cool. Sound like ping.sg, but fully automated and on a larger scale.

Anyway, I went to take a look and found something very funny. Appearantly, the web spider just grab the most recent picture from the blog and use it as the avatar for the blogger.

Do you know what is my avatar? Hint: Its Chinese New Year period.

Picture of Fortune God from this post.

I like Fortune God. (Well, who doesn't?) But having fortune god as my avatar is abit.... eerr.... disrespectful? misrepresentation? I don't know. I still prefer my usual face on table avatar. Wondering if there is any way I could change it.

Thanks to my guest bloggers

Thanks to Eeleen and Brennan for being my guest bloggers while I was busy.

Guest blogging seems fun. Maybe we should do it more often. Anyone want me to guest blog on their blog too? hee hee.

Now that I'm not so busy, its back to the old DK blogging style. :D

Not so busy week ahead

After 2 very busy week, the weeks ahead seem quite relaxed. I'm still going to be busy for quite some time, but its nothing compared to the 2 week grand slam that has just passed.

No more RT for now. But still, I need to do more exercise myself. Must keep reminding myself the 2007 resolution that I've made.

The error is more or less settled. I hope. The long term solution isn't ready yet. But I'm not involved in the solutioning. I was involved in the short term solution while waiting for the long term solution to be tested and roll out to production sometime in mid march. So far, the short term solution that I've come up with my colleagues are working fine. Hope this can finally free me up for other task that I have on hand.

The error took up almost all my time in office that I've left out all other request on hand. I have 1 request that needs to begin testing on Thursday and I haven't started on it. And there is another request that need to be in production this weekend. Also haven't started. Well done. Think I'm going back to office later to settle them. Got this bad feeling that I won't be given the chance to clear them tomorrow.

And I should get ready for the super big datapatch that I need to do at the end of the week.

I should concentrate on my studies too. One assignment is going to be due next monday. Should be able to finish them this weekend. Another assignment due next next monday. And my project's first report due next next Wednesday. Good thing is, I've found a 'client' for the project. Bad news is, there seems to be a lot of things to be done.

One thing you like about those super busy week is that they make the next 2 weeks seems chicken feet.

Ang Pow

This year's ang pow count is alot lesser than last year.

Oh well.... at least this year's black jack wasn't that bad.
Day 1 lose $15
Day 2 win $20
In the end still win $5. :D

Du Shu De Liao

Really cannot tahan that family of big canon relatives I have. I don't understand why they always want to show off. I'm actually fine if you have things to show off. But most of the time, its just big talks.

The most funny phrase I heard from them this Chinese New Year is "Fortune teller say my son is Du Shu De Liao". (Good in studies)

I was trying very hard to control my laughter. That from someone who study 5 years in Secondary School, squeeze into a JC and end up didn't get a seat in local University.

And seriously, his education level is still a mystery till this day. His family claims that he got Masters already. His mum say she wanted him to study psychology. Got some friends said that he claims that he got PHD already. Ya right.

Whatever it is, its confirm that he doesn't have 'Du Shu De Liao'.

Shit, forgot to ask them which fortune teller they go to. That guy confirm not accurate one.

Slash my search

Got this from paddy.

I got my account here already.
Still wondering how it works. Looks complicated. Will need to read up.

Chinese New Year FAQ

Ok, we all know what is the FAQ for singles during Chinese New Year.

Q: "When are you getting married?"

1)"This kind of question is never ending one. Before I get married, you will ask when I getting married. When I got married, you will ask when I going to have children. When I have children, then you will ask when getting another and another."
*Tries to divert the topic*

2) "Last time your elders also ask you such questions right? Then now you in turn come and ask our generations. But this kind of cycle is never ending. So maybe we should stop this from your generation onwards."
*Tries to divert the topic*

3) "Getting married is not as easy as your generation that time. Need a lot of money. The wedding dinner itself is a killer. Last time can just setup 1 shelter by the roadside and have dinner. Nowadays, you choose restaurant some people also don't want. Most want to go hotel nowadays. Where got so much money now? You sponsor? How much you willing to sponsor? I take note. Once I got enough sponsorship, I'll send you the wedding invite."
*Tries to divert the topic*

And so, I avoided yet another FAQ...... oh well..... next please....

Happy New Year

Wish everyone a happy lunar new year!

Kam conspiracy

I've always been wondering..... Is there a conspiracy behind exchanging Kam (mandarin orange) during Chinese New Year?

The tradition says that exchanging Kam is like exchanging gold as the word kam sound like gold blah blah blah. But have you ever wonder.... this tradition could have been created by the kam farmer who is trying to clear his kam during the chinese new year period.

Why would anyone wanna buy so much kam if there isn't such a tradition?

Could all this be a conspiracy?

Good or bad news?

Just got an email from my director before I left office for the long weekend.

Your request for $xxx increment is approved. Look fwd to you renewing your contract with us.

I wonder if this is considered good or bad news? I was already preparing to leave the company. I've even decided where to go for my farewell lunch.

I guess I'll just do what I planned to do.

Stop brainwashing me

Just increase the bloody GST as much as you like lah. Anyway the whole govt is controlled by your party. Whatever bill you want to pass down sure gets approved.

Spare my brain. Stop brainwashing me.

Keep seeing the newspaper with article of how good the economy is lately. Economy is good. But is it really as good as you all say?

They invited some people to the news studio to talk about how the 2% GST hike will impact different group of people. I was laughing when a speaker whom is representing the lower income group say there is not much impact. Who are you to represent the lower income group? How much is your annual income?

Strangely, all the invited speaker seems very happy with the budget. Where did they find those freaks anyway?

Just grab someone along the street and ask if he/she is happy with the GST hike.

Remedial Training phrase 3

And so, I finished RT phase 2 today. IPPT still fail.
Promoted to phrase 3 now. No need go back Maju Camp. Just train myself.

Seriously speaking, the RT this time round is not as good as the one I had last year. We spend more time training last year. This year, we spend more time waiting. Can see that they are trying to give us more variety in the exercise. But more variety means more time to move from one place to another and more waiting.

I still prefer the old RT where there is less variety, less waiting and more workout.

----------------------

IPPT can be a horror if there are a lot of people taking the test on the same day. I arrived late today, changed and got my number tag. Seeing so many people around, I found myself a corner and took a short nap. Woke up 2 hour with a stiff neck, numb backside and its still not my turn yet.

Next time, remember to bring pillow along.

New way to lodge a complaint

Steady lah.

This 2 guys are in deep shit. Video up on youtube. The bus company cannot simply ignore this. Surely have to take some actions.

This form of complaint seem much better than usual writing letter to the company. With the issue made public, the company is pressurized to take action and can't just quietly cover up.

Oh ya, that fellow's teamlead haven't got back to me yet. Is he trying to quietly cover up the issue? Hmmm....

Bon Jovi - Thank You For Loving Me

Happy Valentine Day.

Bon Jovi - Thank You For Loving Me

It's hard for me to say the things
I want to say sometimes
There's no one here but you and me
And that broken old street light
Lock the doors
We'll leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words when I

Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me
Thank you for loving me

I never knew I had a dream
Until that dream was you
When I look into your eyes
The sky's a different blue
Cross my heart
I wear no disguise
If I tried, you'd make believe
That you believed my lies

Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

You pick me up when I fall down
You ring the bell before they count me out
If I was drowning you would part the sea
And risk your own life to rescue me

Lock the doors
We'll leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words when I

Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
You parted my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

When I couldn't fly
Oh, you gave me wings
You parted my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

Waste time DBA

Need to manually update a autonumber sequence in database. I think I'm the first person in the company who is trying to do it. Thinking that it is the DBA's job to serve the request, I emailed the Data Base Administrator and ask them the process.

The DBA say they are not suppose to update the sequence due to audit requirment. He told me to raise a datapatch.

Somehow, I got a feeling that the datapatch job can't update the sequence due to insufficient privilege. So I email the DBA the ID that datapatch job use to log into the database and check if that ID can update the sequence.

The DBA told me that the ID I send him is the job's unix id. He ask me to send him the oracle ID.

Not knowing what is the oracle ID for the datapatch job, I went to ask around to see if anyone knows. Most of my colleagues told me to ask the DBA. Hahaha... Its the DBA asking me that question lor.

Finally, after much asking, I found the oracle ID and send to the DBA.

Few hours later, the DBA replied....

Pls try it in testing server and revert

-------------------------

What the hell. Waste my time go find the ID. Then tell me to test it out myself. Why did tell me earlier? If I need to test it out, then I don't need to find out the ID. Just raise a request, pump in the data then see got error or not.

Argh..... stupid.

Happy Valentine!

It's Valentine Day, spread the love...
I wish you have a Happy Valentine Day
and a million Happy Tomorrows!

A reachable target

I need to give them a figure.

After seriously thinking over it for quite some time, I decided to give them a high but reachable figure.

If they can't give me that figure, then I will not renew my contract. Maybe I'll rest a while, concentrate on my studies for this semester before finding another job.

If they give me that figure, I'll renew but still continue to send my resume to every job opening out there.

Raise voice, slam phone.... what the hell

I was assigned to do some task to resolve the error.

It is quite simple. Run a query at 6pm, use the records to generate a file, upload to server and run a job. All these must be done within 1 1/2 hour. Sound simple, not quite actually. It is not part of my jobscope. I have to learn the process within a short time frame. The query also take quite some time to run. Everything is on a very tight timeline and not much room for errors.

Then I couldn't upload the file to server as the account has reached its disk quota. It wasn't my account. We borrowed the user id from another team as our team has no user ID in that server. Afterall, it is not really our job. We are taking up extra role due to the error.

So I called the server administrator and asked him to help increase the disk quota so that I can upload the file. Without asking me further, the administrator raised his voice and ask why am I using that server and such. Saying I shouldn't be using that server. When I explained to him that I have valid reason to use that server, he then as me to housekeep my account by deleting useless files. I told him I'm not using my user id to access the server. The user id belongs to another team.

On hearing that, the administrator raised his voice even louder and ask why am I using another team's user id. He even threaten to report the case to IS security. So I have to explain to him that our team doesn't have an account to that server. He insist that we should have. So I explained to him that our team usually don't use that server, thus we have no account on that server. Still at the top of his voice, he said that we should apply for a user id instead of borrowing.

Feeling pissed off, I raised my voice back at him, telling him that this is an urgent case and we have no time to apply for a new user id. I told him that all I need from him is to increase the disk quota so that I can perform the task. He insist that I housekeep the account and slam down the phone before I can say anymore thing.

Left with no other choice, I have to call a colleague another team to use another method to resolve the issue. There is nothing I can do if I can't upload file into the server. Luckily she was able to resolve the issue within the time frame.

----------------------

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with these peoples? I know, it is against their policy to increase disk quota. But is there a need to raise their voice? It is very unprofessional and rude to do that. And slam the phone was the last straw. How could you slam the phone in office?

Sometimes, you need to look at the urgency of the issue. Surely, this case is urgent enough to warrant a disk quota increase. Even if it is not, shouldn't you be advising me on a better solution? Nope. Not even a single help. At one point, I was wondering if you are in my company or my competitor's'.

What happen to the company's core value of 'Teamwork' and 'Customer focus'?

So, I wrote a letter to his teamlead before I left for WTT gathering. I don't know if it is useful or not. I just feel that someone up there need to know what is happening. This thing cannot go on. Something need to be done. We should be fighting our competitors, not internally.

And I'm prepared to escalate the issue all the way up to the CEO if no proper action was taken.

And by doing so, I am also fighting internally. But something need to be done.

----------------------

Somehow, my director got to know that I couldn't get the task done. He gave me a call to check what happen. Told him everything, including the raising of voice and phone slamming part. Let see if he will do something about it.

----------------------

My teamlead also knew that I couldn't get the task done. He also called to check what happen.

The task I was doing was to prevent more errors from occurring. It was a top priority issue and everyone is looking closely at it. Despite the fact that it was already 7pm and most people have left, they are still monitoring closely at the situation.

I was still feeling quite pissed of by the whole incident. Told my teamlead that there is nothing I can do because I'm just a JO. He replied saying its not because I'm a JO, but because that team is always hard to handle. They are the administrator. They have absolute power. If they don't like you, they can give you alot of trouble.

But I still feel that it is because I'm a JO. Or rather, even if a SO were to talk to them, he/she would still get the same treatment.

But the whole thing will be different if it is a director and above who made the request. They won't raise their voice or slam the phone. And most likely they will also increase the disk quota. At record speed.

A week of error solving

Weekend is finally here. Got some time to blog more details about what's happening recently.

I knew this is going to be a busy week. But I didn't expect it to be this busy.

There was a major error in the system at work. Actually, I saw that error late last week. But I thought that its just a special case affecting one customer only. I didn't expect so many customers to be affected by the error until Monday afternoon when we suddenly get a surge in numbers of queries from customer.

So I spend the entire week trying to resolve the error. Monday was spend on finding out how big the impact was. Tuesday and Wednesday was spend trying to find a solution. And it was difficult for the 3 teams to agree on a solution. We have couple of workaround methods to solve the error. But every method would impact at least one team. And the other teams wouldn't agree on the solution if there is a big impact to their team's coding.

My team was easiest going one. Basically, whatever option we choose, my team would have quite some impact. Therefore, it doesn't really matter us much. But the other teams weren't so easy. It took several meetings and brainstorming to come up with the final agreed solution. Personally, I don't like this method of approch. Its not 'clean cut' enough. But since we can't get the rest to agree with other solution, I guess this would be the best solution.

Thursday and Friday was spend on identifying the affected customer and writing SQL query to extract the affected cases from the database. It wasn't easy writing the SQL. There are 1001 possible scenario. Almost impossible for a SQL query to identify all cases. I took more than a day to finally cover almost all scenario. I hope I didn't miss out any. The other team was waiting for my SQL query to continue their work. Feel quite bad making them wait so long for that query. But they also know that its a difficult query to write.

It was a busy week. Next week is no better.

Oh, need to go back office on Sunday evening to run some query and get the operators to run some jobs. I could use VPN at home, but I wasn't very comfortable with the idea. What if the VPN is down? What if the network is slow? I only got 1 1/2 hour timeframe. Better not take the risk. It would be safer to do it in office.

Google - The Best Place To Work

I'm sending my resume there now.

But I doubt they would hire me. So back to the Straits Times Recurit section.

I'm from IS dept.

Just received an email from HR asking everyone to update if we subscribe to any services that are paid fully or partially by the company. Things like Handphone, Pager, Internet etc etc etc.....

Hello.... I'm from the IS dept. Do you think the company will pay for my handphone bills? I'm not from marketing dept lor.

It is not that I don't use my handphone for work issue. But most company view IS dept as a cost centre and marketing dept as a revenue centre. Thus, staff from marketing dept usually get better benefits likes subsidies for handphone bills.

They forgot that without us supporting them, they can't make any sales.....

Another Friday

Today...
Hi there gain! It's me.

How is your day? I hope yours is good. As for me, kind of boring today. Yeah, any suggestion what I can do?

LoL, don't mistaken I'm not being lazy but I really have done with my job at work... maybe I should just go back early... if only my bos allowed me to...

Celebration
So Chinese New Year & Valentine's is just around the corner! Have you get all your new cloths & stuff?

Imagine all the goodies and red packet you going to get!

As for me things will be different, because I don't stay with my family so I only get to meet them once in a while. Such as this festive season...

Oh yeah, I'm originally from Ipoh, if you don't know where, it's residing at the heart of Perak, one of the state of Malaysia.

So well, another 7 days to go for me to go back to spend my new year with my family member.

Ok, that's about me today, how about you? Wish you have a good weekend there...

That New Gal

Hey well, let me introduce myself, I'm EeLeen. Glad to have the opportunity to be responsible for creating blog entries on Decayonnet for 2 weeks time / less I guess...

Thanks DK!

About Me ~ So, as you know my name is EeLeen, I'm from Malaysia. I work as a graphic designer for the past 2 and a half year. Ok, I'm 23, going to be 24 soon. I'm a Chinese girl, of course!

So I will be celebrating Chinese New Year which is just around the corner like any of you out there.

I’m a sensitive & caring person but when I feel something is important, I’ll get my own way, especially to do with family! I’m a limewire with friends & family but reserved and shy with strangers.

I’m impossible because my mood swings are scary & while I give a lot, being a bit of a victim, I expect a lot back. I loath feeling like someone is taking advantage of me but to make matters worse, I’m more likely to seethe than be straight with them…

I’m evil, sarcastic, annoying, talkative, straight forward, materialistic! But has got an angel’s heart. More about me? Come back here soon!

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

I've been tagged by princess veron to write 5 things that you (most likely) didn't know about me. So here goes....

1) I'm very poor at remembering name. Chances are, I would have forgotten about your name within 10 seconds after shaking hands with you.

2) I snore. Very loudly

3) I don't take curry. But I eat curry puff.

4) I'm very blur. I always take longer time to really know what is happening around me.

5) I don't dip chilli sauce or ketchup when eating french fries. I eat my fries plain. UNLESS you have tartar sauce, bbq sauce or mayonnaise.

Wrong size, wrong group

There is something seriously wrong with SIM's logistic.

We had a large group for yesterday's module but we were given a small lecture room.

So small until the late comers has to sit on the floor.

Today's lecture group was a small one, but we were given a huge lecture room.

So huge that everyone present can lie on the chairs and there will still be a lot of empty seats left.

PS: Don't bother looking for me. I'm not in the pic as I was late.

How much are you expecting?

Had a talk with my teamlead today. He went to talk to my director and my director ask how much increment am I expecting.

Should I let her know that there are some things that money can't buy?
Should I give her a sky high figure that the company cannot meet?
Or should I give her a figure that the company can meet, only to reject it when they agree.

Or should I just say I'm not interested in working in this place anymore.

The Apprentice S6E1 - To Have and Have Not

I couldn't believe I actually didn't know that they started showing The Apprentice season 6 in the US already. And they already shown 4 episode already.

I wonder when will Singapore show this new season of The Apprentice. I think they are still showing season 5. Or has it just ended? Oh well, I'm glad I've downloaded season 5 and not wait for Mediacorpse. I think I'll download season 6 too.

Oh ya, the whole of episode one can be seen on yahoo tv.

1 thing I like about The Apprentice is that there is always something to learn in each episode. Most of them are lessons in the business world. But sometimes, we do get life lesson as well.

**Spoiler ahead**

---------------

To Have and Have Not

The first task is to run a wash car for 4 hours. Whoever made the most money win.

Frank went to print flyers almost straight away. But they didn't do a sign until much later.

Its impossible to distribute flyers to car when you are standing at the roadside. If you want to use flyers, you'll have to distribute it at the carpark. But even so, is a flyer really required in this task? Its just a mere 4 hour task. You need to be fast in getting cars into the carwash. You need something fast, simple and effective.

Flyers is out. Sign is important.

But Frank's team only lose by a mere $120. That is because Heidi's team only concentrate on the basic carwash package. They didn't try to sell the detail package which bring in more money. Heidi's team is lucky. If the task last for another 1 hour, Frank's team would had caught up with them.

First lesson of the semester

The school really know how to torture us by setting the first lesson of the semester on a Saturday afternoon. What a way to start the weekend.

And to make things worst, I discovered that my timetable was outdated and I ended up going to the wrong classroom. Luckily for me, there wasn't any lesson conducted in that classroom, else I would had make a even bigger fool of myself. And even more luckily for me is that I got a friend who is in the same class as me.

Today's lesson is for the project that I need to submit by end of the year. I've choosen a database project because I'm working with database everyday at my workplace. I hope I can score well for this project. Really need a good score after barely passing my Artificial Intelligence module.

I have 3 problem on hand now.

Firstly, revise on my relational database module which I had taken 3 years ago. I should had taken this project straight after my relational database module. Now.... how do I draw ER model and use SQL anywhere?

Second problem is to identify the scope of the project. How big I want it to be. If it is too big, my tutor will make me reduce the scope. If its too small, I will need to do all over again. But exactly how big is big? Different people have different definition of big. This is going to be something hard.

Lastly, I need to find a client for this project. The tutor said that I would be best if we have a real life client for this project. Else we might not be able to do something that is feasible for the real working world. I do agree with her way of saying. But the problem is, I need to finish the first proposal by early March. That is just one month. To make thing worst, Febuary is a very short month and mid Febuary is Chinese New Year. I need to find a client whom I can develope a database for his business within 1 month and write the first proposal. This is going to be tough.

Well..... one person come into my mind.... :D

Writer block

Having writer block lately. There are quite alot of things happening lately, just that I don't know how to translate them into words and put them on the blog.

And I also don't know why I've been visiting less blog lately.

Sorry if I've been blogging less lately. Sorry if I didn't visit your blog lately.

I be back to the old usual blogger me soon. I hope. Time to get ready to go to school now.

There are some thing money can't buy

In the past, I always thought that money can buy everything. But lately, I found something that money can't buy.

A colleague asked me how much increment am I expecting. Before going to HR, I was expecting at least the same amount as I got last year. If they give me more, it would be better. But after looking at that new contract, I really don't know how much I want now.

It is no longer about money now. The heart isn't there anymore. Even if they give me $500 increment (which is impossible), I also wouldn't have the heart to work anymore. The respect is no longer there. I can't work for money only.

There are some thing money can't buy.

Anyway, I'm going to get them to review the terms and give me a better terms. But the chances of me renewing my contract is very slim. My heart is already outside the company.

I'll be unemployed in 35 days time.

Re-writing my resume yet again

Just 2 days after re-writing my resume, I'm back on the laptop re-writing it again.

What happened was, I send my resume to my cousin and she told me that I made serveral resume writing mistakes. Firstly, I put my educations background on top and work experience below. 4 years in the working world, its the working experience that matter more. Therefore, I should put my working experience in front. And I should stress more on the current job that I'm doing.

Then I had too much spaces in my resume. Thus making the resume long. She said I should try to keep within 2 pages.

And most importantly, I should make my resume STAND OUT from the rest.

Hmmm.... okie, back to the drawing board.

Ping.sg turns version 1.00

Ping.sg turns version 1.00.

Too bad I got lesson on monday. Couldn't attend the first meetup.
